this is a report of a case study on 234 patients with impetigo who referred to razi dermatology hospital from april to november, 1989. treatment was started immediately after obtaining direct smear and performing culture and antibiotic sensitivity test. the most common organism responsible for impetigo was the coagulase-positive staphylococcus (71%). in 13.7% of the cases, the coagulase-negativ...
Interaction of oral streptococci biofilm is the main etiological factor for dental caries. The aim of the study was to compare oral streptococci (OS) distribution in the biofilm of primary dentition from caries-free and caries-affected preschool Mexican children. This cross-sectional study involved 40 caries-free and 40 caries-affected children with primary dentition. Each child was examined us...
Streptococcus salivarius is a Gram-positive bacterial commensal and pioneer colonizer of the human oral cavity. Many strains produce ribosomally synthesized proteinaceous antibiotics (bacteriocins), and some strains have been developed for use as oral probiotics. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of the bacteriocin-producing oral probiotic S. salivarius strain M18.
The objective of this study is to determine the tyrosinase inhibition and antibacterial activities against the pathogenic bacteria in the oral cavity of the mangosteen pericarp extract. The results showed that the mangosteen pericarp extract inhibited the tyrosinase enzyme at IC50 = 67 ng/ml. Furthermore, the mangosteen pericarp extract also exhibited the antibacterial activities against the pa...
Faropenem was tested against 1,188 middle ear fluid pathogens from children in Israel and Costa Rica. Against Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae, faropenem was the most active beta-lactam, with activity that was similar to or greater than of the other oral antimicrobial classes studied. Faropenem was also active against Moraxella catarrhalis and Streptococcus pyogenes.
Two oligonucleotide primer sets for the discrimination of Streptococcus pneumoniae from "pneumococcus-like" oral streptococcal isolates by PCR were developed. Genomic subtractive hybridization was performed to search for differences between Streptococcus pneumoniae strain WU2 and the most closely related oral streptococcus, Streptococcus mitis strain 903. We identified 19 clones that contained ...
This article reviewed smoking oral diseases Cigarette smoke affects the oral cavity first, so it is evident that smoking has many negative influences on oral cavity, for example, dental caries The article also discusses the relationship between smoking, Streptococcus mutans counts, secretory IgA (S-IgA) and dental caries in detail. Dental caries were significantly related to the presence of Str...
We report the first case of infection due to Streptococcus oligofermentans, which is a recently described oral Streptococcus species. It was responsible for the endocarditis and left forearm abscess of a 43-year-old woman. Identification was made using molecular techniques performed directly from valvular and surgical samples.
Methanethiol (methyl mercaptan) is an important contributor to oral malodour and periodontal tissue destruction. Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia and Fusobacterium nucleatum are key oral microbial species that produce methanethiol via methionine gamma lyase (mgl) activity. The aim of this study was to compare an mgl knockout strain of P. gingivalis with its wild type using a 10-s...
OBJECTIVE Early childhood caries (ECC) has become a prevalent public health problem among Chinese preschool children. The bacterial microflora is considered to be an important factor in the formation and progress of dental caries. However, high-throughput and large-scale studies of the primary dentition are lacking. The present study aimed to compare oral microbial profiles between children wit...
