The efficiency with which fish and other animals add and maintain body proteins is a balance between synthesis of proteins and their degradation. In fish that have similar food consumption and protein synthesis rates, a greater ratio of synthesis to degradation would be expected to produce more efficient conversion of food into growth. In addition, we hypothesised that high activities of the pr...

The study of inter-individual variability of personality in fish is a growing field of interest but the genetic basis of this complex trait is still poorly investigated due to the difficulty in controlling fish genetic origin and life history. When available, isogenic lines that allow performing independent tests on different individuals having identical genotype constitute a very relevant expe...

We report here the complete genome sequence of Weissella ceti strain WS08, an emerging pathogen to farm-raised rainbow trout. The genome of strain WS08 is composed of a circular chromosome with 1,355,853 bp and a G+C content of 40.78%.

Novel Weissella sp. bacteria have recently been reported to be associated with disease outbreaks in cultured rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) at commercial farms in China, Brazil, and the United States. Here we present the first genome sequence of this novel Weissella species, isolated from the southeastern United States.

The Pacific salmonid species Oncorhynchus mykiss is separated into a migratory form (steelhead trout) and a non-migratory form (rainbow trout). A decrease in water temperature is likely a cue triggering downstream behavior in the migratory form, and testosterone inhibits onset of this behavior. To elucidate differences in sensitivity to water temperature decreases between the migratory and non-...

We report here the draft genome sequence of a lethal pathogen of farmed salmonids, Piscirickettsia salmonis strain AUSTRAL-005. This virulent strain was isolated in 2008 from Oncorhynchus mykiss farms, and multiple genes involved in pathogenicity, environmental adaptation, and metabolic pathways were identified.
