This work proposed a new method for a gravity compensation using the noncircular pulley, cable driving, and spring balancer. The noncircular pulley is arranged in the front of one transmission chain. When the mechanism apply this method for the gravity compensation of some multi-DOF and multilink manipulator, it can be achieved that a perfect gravity balance and less number of springs. To obtai...

A rotor-journal bearing system for a twin rotary compressor has been nlliDerically analyzed to estimate the reliability and to optimize the bearing design. For rotary compressors, large dynamic loads act on the rotor. They are unbalanced forces due to eccentric rotation parts and gas forces induced by the difference in pressure between compression and suction gases. In such a case, the rotor-jo...

INTRODUCTION Externally pressurized gas-lubricated thrust bearings (aerostatic bearings) keep the bearing clearance constant under a constant supply pressure. We investigated how controlling the supply pressure with an electro-pneumatic servovalve can be used to dynamically adjust the bearing gap height. As a result of our investigation, we developed an electropneumatic servo-actuator “pneumati...

With increasing demand for load capacity and dynamic responses, the new generation of Gas Dynamic Foil Bearings (GDFB), assembled from preloaded elastic multi-leaf foils, has been put forward. It exhibits steady characteristics that are more sensitive to contact friction produced by foil–foil bearings housings foil bearings, distinguishing its response rigidity those classic bearings. This stud...

These studies explore elementary-school-aged children's ability to evaluate circular explanations and whether they respond to receiving weak explanations by expressing interest in additional learning. In the first study, 6-, 8-, and 10-year-olds (n = 53) heard why questions about unfamiliar animals. For each question, they rated the quality of single explanations and later selected the best exp...

Development of robust and highly sensitive algorithms for detecting incipient bearing faults in gas turbine engines will greatly benefit both military and civil aviation through improved aircraft reliability and maintainability. Techniques including advanced vibration analysis and oil debris monitoring have proven effective in laboratory and industrial settings, but factors including poor trans...

Liquid-gas-liquid interfaces stabilized by hydrophobic beads behave as ball bearings under shear and exhibit a giant slip. Using a scaling analysis and molecular dynamics simulations we predict that, when the contact angle θ between the beads and the liquid is large, the slip length diverges as Rρ(-1)(π-θ)(-3) where R is the bead radius, and ρ is the bead density.

We present a method to derive positions of molecular clouds along the lines of sight from a quantitative comparison between 2.6mm CO emission lines and 18 cm OH absorption lines, and apply it to the central kiloparsecs of the Milky Way. With some simple but justifiable assumptions, we derive a face-on distribution of the CO brightness and corresponding radial velocity in the Galactic centre wit...
