Comparison of solar-neutrino signals in SNO [1] and Super-Kamiokande (SK) [2] detectors results in discovery of ν e → ν µ,τ oscillations at level 3.1−3.3 σ [1]. This comparison involves the assumption of neutrino spectrum and a choice for the thresholds of detection in both experiments. In this Letter we obtain an exact formula for the comparison of the signals which is valid for arbitrary spec...
I summarize the status of three-flavour neutrino oscillations with date of Oct. 2007, and provide an outlook for the developments to be expected in the near future. Furthermore, I discuss the status of sterile neutrino oscillation interpretations of the LSND anomaly in the light of recent MiniBooNE results, and comment on implications for the future neutrino oscillation program.
Medium-baseline reactor neutrino oscillation (MBRO) experiments have been proposed to determine the neutrino mass hierarchy (MH) and to make precise measurements of the neutrino oscillation parameters. With sufficient statistics, better than ∼ 3%/ √ E(MeV ) energy resolution and well understood energy non-linearity, MH can be determined by analyzing oscillation signals driven by the atmospheric...
After a brief summary of the neutrino oscillation formalism and the solar neutrino sources and experiments I discuss the matter effect on solar neutrino oscillation. Then I discuss how the resulting alternative solutions are experimentally resolved in favour of the LMA solution, with particular exphasis on the SK, SNO and KL data.
We propose simple phenomenological lepton mass matrices which describe the three neutrinos almost degenerate in mass, leading to a very large mixing angle between νμ and ντ , as consistent with a recent report on atmospheric neutrino oscillation from the Superkamiokande collaboration. Our matrix model also gives νe − νμ mixing in agreement with the value required for neutrino oscillation to exp...
Recently, it was pointed out that the solar and atmospheric neutrino deficits can be explained by oscillations between electroweak doublet and singlet neutrinos in the model of Majorana neutrinos. However, since the model includes no flavor mixing, it cannot explain the recent LSND result. We extend the model to include the flavor mixing, and obtain the explanation of the LSND result together w...
The JHF-Kamioka neutrino project is a second generation long base line neutrino oscillation experiment that probes physics beyond the Standard Model by high precision measurements of the neutrino masses and mixing. A high intensity narrow band neutrino beam is produced by secondary pions created by a high intensity proton synchrotron at JHF (JAERI). The neutrino energy is tuned to the oscillati...
We examine the potential for a ‘‘natural’’ three-neutrino mixing scheme to satisfy available data and astrophysical arguments. By ‘‘natural’’ we mean no sterile neutrinos, and a neutrino mass hierarchy similar to that of the charged leptons. We seek to satisfy ~or solve! ~1! accelerator and reactor neutrino oscillation constraints, including LSND, ~2! the atmospheric muon neutrino deficit probl...
After a brief introduction to neutrino mass via the seesaw model I discuss neutrino mixing and oscillation, first in vacuum and then its matter enhancement. Then the solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillation data are briefly reviewed. Finally I discuss the problem of reconciling hierarchical neutrino masses with at least one large mixing, as implied by these data. A minimal seesaw model for re...
We propose a simple texture of the neutrino mass matrix with one sterile neutrino along with the three standard ones. It gives maximal mixing angles for νe → νS and νμ → ντ oscillations or vice versa. Thus with only four parameters, this mass matrix can explain the solar neutrino anomaly, atmospheric neutrino anomaly, LSND result and the hot dark matter of the universe, while satisfying all oth...
