background: methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (mrsa) is a common major human pathogen that causes hospital-acquired infections. characterization and typing of the staphylococcal cassette chromosome has led to a better understanding of mrsa infection cycle in hospital. the meca-associated hypervariable region size classifies mrsa isolates that colonized in nasal carriers. objectives: t...

We reviewed the records of 87 patients who underwent liver transplantation and who were screened by use of nasal swabs on the day before surgery. Twenty-four patients harbored methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA), and 8 harbored methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA). MSSA infection occurred in 3 (12.5%) of 24 MSSA carriers and in 2 (3.2%) of 63 noncarriers (nonsignificant). In ...

In 928 Dallas County Jail detainees, nasal carriage of Staphylococcus aureus was found in 32.8% (26.5% methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus [MSSA] and 6.3% methicillin-resistant S. aureus [MRSA]), and hand carriage was found in 24.9% (20.7% MSSA and 4.1% MRSA). Among MRSA nasal carriers, 41% had hand MRSA carriage; 29% with hand MRSA carriage had no nasal S. aureus carriage. The preval...

Staphylococcus aureus nasal carriage is a common source of nosocomial infection and colonization. The aim of the present study was to assess the burden of methicillin-resistant S. aureus nasal carriage, its association with factors of interest including its genetic relationships. The prevalence of S. aureus nasal carriage was found to be 28.7%. This study showed that patients with a history of ...

Staphylococcus aureus is considered one of the most frequently occurring communityand hospi-tal-associated pathogens. Infectious diseases caused by Staphylococcus aureus are in various forms, ranging from mild skin infection, endocarditis, to fulminant septicemia. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) nasal carriage rates ...

Background Staphylococcus aureus (s. aureus) nasal carriers, particularly the healthcare staff can be considered as a potential source for the spread of resistant strains. The aim of this study was to determine the molecular characterization of S. aureus strains isolated among the staff nasal carriers in one of the teaching hospitals in Babol. Methods A total of 120 nasal swabs were taken fro...

BACKGROUND Control of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is difficult in select populations. We used molecular typing to study the effect of universal surveillance and decolonization of carriers, without isolation, on MRSA transmission in a specialized unit. METHODS Patients admitted to the unit were screened for nasal MRSA at admission and discharge. Those who acquired MRSA d...

OBJECTIVES To identify Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) nasal carriage status among medical students during their clinical rotations. METHODS This cross-sectional study detected the prevalence of MRSA among medical students at King Abdulaziz University (KAU), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, using molecular approaches. Nasal swabs were collected from 150 internship and sixth-year medic...
