In embalmed preparations, the antebrachial fascia in the lateral elbow region is shown to be deformed by load application to the triceps muscle. From this fascia, muscles arise which are primarily concerned with the extension of wrist and fingers. In the case of lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), the superficial site of attachment of these extensors at the lateral epicondyle is extremely pai...

Tendon rupture in dogs is generally the result of a direct trauma. This report described the use of adjacent muscle autogenic fascial graft for reconstruction of distal rupture of long digital extensor tendon in a dog. A two-year-old male mix breed dog, was presented with a non-weight bearing lameness of the right hind limb and a deep rupture of lateral side of right tarsus. History taking reve...

In myofascial manipulation an immediate tissue release is often felt under the working hand. This amazing feature has traditionally been attributed to mechanical properties of the connective tissue. Yet studies have shown that either much stronger forces or longer durations would be required for a permanent viscoelastic deformation of fascia. Fascia nevertheless is densely innervated by mechano...

T HE temporal muscle and fascia can be utilized to give anchorage for fascial strips in facial paralysis, and some degree of emotional expression may be developed, if the patient will train the newly substituted fifth nerve muscle and will avoid overactivity of the sound side of the face (Figs. 1, 2 and 3). Mechanical support, of course, should not be relied upon when nerve anasto-mosis is poss...

INTRODUCTION Various graft materials have been used to close tympanic membrane perforations. In the literature, there are few studies in pediatric populations comparing different graft materials. To our knowledge, there is no reported study that measured the thickness of the tragal cartilage in pediatric tympanoplasties. The tragal cartilage is not of uniform thickness in every patient. OBJEC...

BACKGROUND Post-surgical evaluation of the pituitary gland in MRI is difficult because of a change in anatomical conditions. It depends also on numerous other factors, including: size and expansion of the tumour before surgery, type of surgical access, quality and volume of implanted materials and time of its resorption. The purpose was to demonstrate the characteristics of the implanted materi...

We have successfully used the strong, fibrous fascia of the temporalis muscle to create a buckle in retinal detachment opera tions and to reinforce the cornea prior to in sertion of a keratoprosthesis, thereby, in creasing its ability to retain the implant. Temporalis fascia is also useful in those cases in which it is necessary to reinforce or to replace the sciera, for example, in scleroma...
