In this study, the pH of mulberry juice was optimized for high anthocyanin content and an attractive red color. Mulberry juice pH values of 2.5, 4.0, 6.0, and 8.0 were evaluated. A pH of 2.5 gave an anthocyanin content of 541.39 ± 106.43 mg of cyanidin-3-glucoside per liter, and the a* value was 14 ± 1.00. The effects of stabilizers (CMC and xanthan gum) on the physical characteristics of cloud...

Xylella fastidiosa causes bacterial leaf scorch in landscape trees, including mulberry. We determined the draft genome of the mulberry strain Mul-MD in order to gain a better understanding of the molecular basis of strain divergence, host specificity, nutrient requirements, and pathogenicity, as well as to develop genome-based specific detection methods.

BACKGROUND Paper mulberry (Broussonetia papyrifera (L.) L'Hér. ex Vent) is a dioecious tree native to East Asia and mainland Southeast-Asia, introduced prehistorically to Polynesia as a source of bark fiber by Austronesian-speaking voyagers. In Oceania, trees are coppiced and harvested for production of bark-cloth, so flowering is generally unknown. A survey of botanical records of paper mulber...

BACKGROUND Diabetes is a metabolic disease prevalent worldwide in all age group of people. The source of diabetes is due to an oxidation process that can produce free radicals. An increase in oxidative free radicals in the body is reported to be one of the several causes of diabetes. The best remedy to combat oxidative stress is the use of antioxidants, which inhibit and scavenge free radicals....

Since a plant miRNA (miR168) cross-regulating a mammalian transcript was reported, miRNA-mediated cross-kingdom communication has become one of the most compelling but controversial topics. In the present study, we used silkworm and mulberry, which is a model for studies on the interactions between the insect and its host plant, to address whether miRNA-mediated cross-kingdom communication is a...

the co-inoculation of mulberry with phosphate solubilizing micro-organisms, nitrogen fixing bacteria and arbuscular mycorrhiza has influenced its macronutrient uptake through leaf. the data revealed that maximum nitrogen (484.12 kg /ha) , phosphorus (59.83 kg /ha) and potassium (244.61 kg/ha) uptake through leaf has taken place due to co-inoculation treatments as compared to the un inoculated t...

UNLABELLED Aims/Introduction:  The glucose analogue, 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ), found in mulberry (Morus alba) leaves, is a promising α-glucosidase inhibitor. We evaluated the effect of the ingestion of mulberry leaf extract with enriched DNJ content on postprandial hyperglycemia in subjects with impaired glucose metabolism. MATERIALS AND METHODS   In study 1, we carried out a randomized, doub...

Background and aim: Diabetic nephropathy results from an increasing in oxidative stress. The phenolic components of mulberry (Morus nigra L.) leaves extract have antioxidant components and may modulate oxidative stress. In this study, the beneficial effects of mulberry leaves extract were assessed in diabetic nephropathy. Materials and methods: Diabetes induced by high-fat diet and injection of...
