Dietary constituents can affect cow acid-base physiology and uterine pH. Dietary cation-anion difference (DCAD) has been shown to affect cow acid-base physiology, but the effect on uterine pH has not been demonstrated. The objective of this work was to determine if DCAD [(Na + K + 0.15Ca + 0.15Mg) - (Cl + 0.60S + 0.50P)] could affect cow DMI, acid-base physiology, and uterine pH, and second, to...

This study compared the effects of drying on beet pulp with and without added molasses by measuring the in sacco digestibility and composition including ®ber polysaccharides and minerals. Beet pulp was sampled before and after the addition of molasses from four different sugar processing plants within California. These samples were sub-sampled and then sun-, freeze-, or airdried. The percentage...

The SMRI has developed a new nutsch bomb which has several advantages over existing models. It is lighter, easier to load/clean and separates molasses at a faster rate. Puri-ties of molasses from the SMRI bomb were the same as those from conventional nutsch separators. Introduction The conventional nutsch bomb using a horizontal screen arrangement had proved to be very slow in extracting

The purpose of this study was to assess the myceliation rate, mycelial vigor and “estimated biomass” of Lentinula edodes (Berk.) Pegler, grown on a sugarcane bagasse substrate enriched with rice bran and sugarcane molasses for spawn production. The proportions of rice bran used were 0, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 40% (dry weight/dry weight of bagasse) and the sugarcane molasses concentrations tested...

Five years of data were collected on 124 Brangus-type cows to evaluate weaning calves at 8.5 or 10.5 mo of age and winter supplementation of the brood cow with 2.25 kg of molasses daily. Cows with calves weaned at 10.5 mg of age gained 14 kg less weight (P less than .01) during the late nursing period than did cows from which calves were earlier weaned. Age of calf at weaning had no effect on c...

A metabolic trial was conducted at Buffalo Research Institute, Pattoki, in which 25 male buffalo calves were fed the diets having total mixed ration (100%TMR) (Tc), 70%TMR with 30% silage1 (T1), 70% TMR plus 30% silage2 (T2), 70%TMR with 30% silage3 (T3), and70% TMR plus 30% silage4 (T4). The data thus obtained was statistically analyzed using one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique. Amo...

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of supplementation of alfalfa silage with Lactobacillus buchneri additive, orange pulp and molasses on dry matter, crude protein and organic matter degradability by nylon bags. The treatments included: alfalfa silage (control treatment), alfalfa silage processed with bacterial additive, 3×108 cfu/g, alfalfa and orange pulp silage, alfalfa...

Production of lysine by Corynebacterium glutamicum (PTCC 1532) from different agricultural by-products (molasses and pulpy waste date) was compared to glucose as raw materials. For this purpose, ammonium sulphate was selected as a constant nitrogen source. The effect of different nitrogen sources was also investigated with glucose as a constant carbon source. The production of L-lysine was exam...

The technical feasibility of increasing sucrose recovery by means of selective removal of final molasses components after liming and ethanolic precipitation is investigated. It is possible to increase the purity of 65% of the molasses solids by 8 9 units. The reducing substance/ash ratio is increased by 75%. The method is technically feasible but the economic factors are unclear.
