Here, we present the draft genome of Bacillus velezensis 3A-25B, which totaled 4.01 Mb with 36 contigs, 3,948 genes, and a GC content of 46.34%. This strain, which demonstrates biocontrol activity against root rot causal phytopathogens in horticultural crops and friendly interactions in roots of pepper plantlets, was obtained from grassland soil in Zacatecas Province, Mexico.
Cellular oxidation index has emerged as an important determinant in defining the fate of a living cell and its susceptibility to disease. Oxidative stress targets include oxidation of DNA, protein and lipids; causing cellular oncogenesis, chronic diseases and premature senescence. The possibility that dietary intervention via nutrition-enriched food may significantly decrease incidence of diet-...
Precision agriculture is the management of spatial and temporal variability of the fields using ICT. The application in horticultural crops was developed in the last ten years. Data are collected from different sources (yield and quality, soil properties, remote sensing), stored to GIS data bases, analysed using geostatistical methods to develop management zones and decision support systems are...
Plants subjected to abiotic stresses synthesize secondary metabolites with potential application in the functional foods, dietary supplements, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and agrochemical markets. This approach can be extended to horticultural crops. This review describes previous reports regarding the effect of different postharvest abiotic stresses on the accumulation of phenolic compounds. Lik...
Peat moss is the most widely used source of organic matter for growing horticultural crops in the United States. The demand for peat as a substrate constituent for bedding and pot plants has remarkably increased in recent years, thus reducing the availability and increasing cost (Nappi and Barberis, 1993). Composts may serve as qualitatively and economically as competitive alternative sources o...
