It has been suggested that appropriate periodic sequences of laser pulses can maintain molecular alignment for arbitrarily long times [J. Ortigoso, Phys. Rev. Lett. 93, 073001 (2004)]. These aligned states are found among the cyclic eigenstates of truncated matrix representations of the one-period time propagator U(T,0). However, long time localization of periodic driven systems depends on the ...

Acute lithium intoxication is well known. A case of long tasting lithium neurotoxicity in an adolescent male is reported, who showed signs of cerebellar as well as brain stem involvement. Persistent lithium neurotoxicity is discussed and the recommendation made that this condition be considered irreversible only if no substantial recovery occurs in the first six months.

Adaptation to gaze direction induces aftereffects in the perception of gaze in subsequently presented faces. Gaze adaptation calibrates neural responses to the most frequently occurring gaze signals and therefore frees up capacity to respond to more novel signals, likely enhancing gaze discrimination and supporting novelty detection. The longevity of aftereffects can provide some insight into t...

This study examines whether the beneficial effects of molsydomine, a recently introduced antianginal agent, on exercise performance of patients with angina pectoris are long lasting. The hemodynamic effects are known to persist for several hours. The effects of molsydomine on the duration of exercise and the time to the onset of ST depression were compared to those of placebo during two hours a...

This work aimed to test the long-lasting effects of learning acquired with a virtual motorcycle-riding trainer as a tool to improve hazard perception. During the simulation, the rider can interact with other road actors and experience the most common potential accident situations in order to learn to modify his or her behavior to anticipate hazards and avoid crashes. We compared performance to ...
