Structured link vector model (SLVM) and its improved version depend on statistical term measures to implement XML document representation. As a result, they ignore the lexical semantics of terms and its mutual information, leading to text classification errors. This paper proposed a XML document representation method, WordNet-based lexical-semantic SLVM, to solve the problem. Using WordNet, thi...
traditional and modern vocabulary instruction techniques have been introduced in the past few decades to improve the learners’ performance in reading comprehension. semantic mapping, which entails drawing learners’ attention to the interrelationships among lexical items through graphic organizers, is claimed to enhance vocabulary learning significantly. however, whether this technique suits all...
keywords: computational lexicography; lexical knowledge bases We describe an automated strategy which exploits on-line dictionaries to construct a richly-structured lexical knowledge base. In particular, we show how the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English (LDOCE) can be used to build a directed graph which captures semantic associations between words. The result is a huge and highly inte...
A semantic word network is a network that represents the semantic relations between individual words or their lexical senses. This paper proposes Watlink, an unsupervised method for inducing a semantic word network (SWN) by constructing and expanding the hierarchical contexts using both the available dictionary resources and distributional semantics’ methods for is-a relations. It has three ste...
There is evidence that the explicit lexical-semantic processing deficits which characterize aphasia may be observed in the absence of implicit semantic impairment. The aim of this article was to critically review the international literature on lexical-semantic processing in aphasia, as tested through the semantic priming paradigm. Specifically, this review focused on aphasia and lexical-semant...
OBJECTIVE Word finding depends on the processing of semantic and lexical information, and it involves an intermediate level for mapping semantic-to-lexical information which also subserves lexical-to-semantic mapping during word comprehension. However, the brain regions implementing these components are still controversial and have not been clarified via a comprehensive lesion model encompassin...
the semantic network of the preposition 'ba' in persian: a cognitive study as one of the widely used prepositions in persian, 'ba' (i.e. with) may also function as an adjective particle or affix. this paper studies various meanings of preposition 'ba' within a cognitive lexical semantics framework. it aims to show that the various meanings of this preposition do not emerge randomly. drawing the...
We explore the application of a Deep Structured Similarity Model (DSSM) to ranking in lexical simplification. Our results show that the DSSM can effectively capture fine-grained features to perform semantic matching when ranking substitution candidates, outperforming the stateof-the-art on two standard datasets used for the task.
According to the competition account of lexical selection in word production, conceptually driven word retrieval involves the activation of a set of candidate words in left temporal cortex and competitive selection of the intended word from this set, regulated by frontal cortical mechanisms. However, the relative contribution of these brain regions to competitive lexical selection is uncertain....
