The deoxyuridine suppression test and labeled deoxyuridine incorporation studies assume a stable level of deoxyuridine phosphorylase (thymidine:orthophosphate deoxyribosyltransferase, EC 2.4.2.4) activity. We report a large increase in deoxyuridine phosphorylase activity in three of five cultured lymphoblast lines treated with 10(-7) M methotrexate. In two of these lines, a parallel increase in...

Instability of a CAG repeat in 4p16.3 has been found in Huntington's disease (HD) chromosomes. Unlike a similar repeat in the fragile X syndrome, the expanded HD repeat showed no evidence of somatic instability in a comparison of blood, lymphoblast, and brain DNA from the same persons. Four pairs of monozygotic HD twins displayed identical CAG repeat lengths suggesting that repeat size is deter...

Three growth rate experiments involving several sampling points were performed to investigate the previous finding that very low concentrations of HgCl2 inhibit the growth of murine lymphoblasts in vitro. However, results presented here do not confirm this, there being no significant differences between the three independent growth rate experiments.

The mitogenic effect of the novel lectin prepared from an animal source on human lymphocytes was examined in comparison with that of phytohemagglutinin-p (PHA-p) by the uptake of 3H-thymidine. The uptake of 3H-thymidine by lymphoblasts was enhanced by the treatment with the lectin as well as with PHA-p, though the effect of the lectin was difficult to compare exactly with that of PHA-p.

Chemoresistant human CD34 ?/lo /CD38 + MLL leukemic stem cells originate from HSCs and can be resensitized by targeting ABCC3 with fidaxomicin.

Background and Objective: Carvedilol, a non-specific β-blocker, has been used for treatment of hypertension, stroke and congestive heart failure. The therapeutic effects of β blockers in cancer patients have been shown. Carvedilol has considerable anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and anti-angiogenic properties. In this study, the effects of carvedilol on proliferation of human U937 and Molt-4 leuk...
