Immunoreactive leucocyte elastase was measured in the serum of patients with chronic obstructive bronchitis. No evidence was found to demonstrate the release of this enzyme in the pulmonary circulation. However the average serum concentrations (573 . 0 micrograms/l; SD +/- 261 . 0) were higher (2p less than 0 . 001) in this group of patients than in age matched control subjects (355 . 2 microgr...

The neutrophil count, immature:total neutrophil ratio, C reactive protein assay, nitroblue tetrazolium test and an acridine orange leucocyte cytospin test were evaluated for the diagnosis of neonatal bacteraemia. The acridine orange leucocyte cytospin test gave the highest specificity and positive predictive accuracy, but was less sensitive than the neutrophil count, C reactive protein assay or...

Intra-articular instillation of corticosteroids in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is often followed by transient relief of symptoms and signs of local synovitis (Hollander, Brown, Jessar, and Brown, 1951; Ziff, Scull, Ford, McEwen, and Bunim, 1952). The basis for this clinical improvement is not known and has not been comprehensively correlated with changes in the characteristic synovi...

Several studies have reported beneficial effects of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) in diseases of the neuroaxis. However, IVIg effects on leucocyte recruitment, a hallmark feature of autoimmunity and acute inflammation, remain largely unexplored. Using intravital microscopy, we studied the effects of IVIg on leucocyte recruitment in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, a model of multi...

Leucocytes have a central role in the pathogenesis of retinal and choroidal inflammatory disease. The traYc of different leucocyte subsets such as neutrophils, lymphocytes, and monocytes into retinal and choroidal tissue greatly determines the type of immune response that is observed. Infiltration of these cells can lead to tissue destruction with resulting visual loss. To allow these cells to ...

Covid-19 is an infectious disease caused by SARS-CoV 2 and has spread very quickly. Several laboratory examinations were carried out on patients including molecular examinations, hematological profiles, serology. This study aims to determine the relationship between leucocyte, d-dimer, hemoglobin thrombocyte against procalcitonin in with Covid-19. was observational analytic cross sectional desi...

The leucocyte alkaline phosphatase (LAP) score was estimated in healthy and infected neonates. A leucocyte band count was also done simultaneously. The infected group showed a significant (P < 0.001) decrease in the LAP score and a significant (P < 0.001) increase in the band count. These findings are discussed.
