OBJECTIVE In order to improve the dissemination of new expert-based treatments for adolescents with anorexia nervosa, we have developed an innovative 1-week intensive family-based evaluation and treatment programme. Ages of the adolescents in the programme ranged from 10 to 18 years (mean = 15.0, SD = 2.1). We report the outcomes of the first 19 cases. METHOD Data were obtained from a retrosp...
Endogenous opiates have been implicated as regulators of mood and pain. Recent literature suggests a relationship between these internal opiates and ingestive behaviors in both animals and humans. The present study investigates this relationship by comparing the pain sensitivities of obese and nonobese subjects. Twenty-six subjects (18 females, 8 males) whose weight was 130% or greater of their...
We retrospectively identified 67 patients with severe or morbid obesity (body mass index ≥35 kg/m(2)) who had received intravenous vancomycin at our institution. We observed that an initial dose of 45 to 65 mg/kg vancomycin per day based upon ideal body weight rather than actual body weight was more predictive of initial trough concentrations between 15 and 20 mcg/mL.
OBJECTIVES The primary objective of this analysis was to characterise the steady-state pharmacokinetics (PK) of ethinylestradiol (EE) and drospirenone (DRSP) in a randomised Phase III study that investigated the contraceptive efficacy and safety of three different regimens of EE 20 µg/DRSP 3 mg. METHODS Non-linear mixed-effects modelling was used to develop population PK models ...

Objective: We tested the hypothesis that inadequate self-perception of body weight with or without obesity would be associated with common mental disorders (CMD). Method: We analyzed cross-sectional data from 4,030 university employees participating in the longitudinal Pró-Saúde Study Phase 1 (1999) in Rio de Janeiro. Participants (22-59 years of age) were invited to fill out a questionnaire th...

To date, the dosing of sugammadex is based on real body weight without taking fat content into account. We compared the reversal of profound rocuronium-induced neuromuscular blockade in morbidly obese patients using doses of sugammadex based on four different weight corrections. One hundred morbidly obese patients, scheduled for laparoscopic bariatric surgery under propofol-sufentanil anaesthes...
