The current recommendations for intravenous (i.v.) acyclovir dosing in obese patients suggest using ideal body weight (IBW) rather than total body weight (TBW). To our knowledge, no pharmacokinetic analysis has validated this recommendation. This single-dose pharmacokinetic study was conducted in an inpatient oncology population. Enrollment was conducted by 1:1 matching of obese patients (>190%...

The total body weight-based dosing strategy currently used in the prophylactic treatment of hemophilia A may not be appropriate for all populations. BACKGROUND Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common life threatening autosomal recessive disorder in the white population. Wasting has long been recognised as a poor prognostic marker in CF. Whether it predicts survival independently of lung function and arterial blood gas tensions has not previously been reported. METHODS 584 patients with CF (261 women) of mean (SD) age 21 (7) years were stu...

We retrospectively identified 67 patients with severe or morbid obesity (body mass index ≥35 kg/m(2)) who had received intravenous vancomycin at our institution. We observed that an initial dose of 45 to 65 mg/kg vancomycin per day based upon ideal body weight rather than actual body weight was more predictive of initial trough concentrations between 15 and 20 mcg/mL.

The present study sought to investigate the influence of self-activation on body and weight satisfaction in restrained and unrestrained eaters, after exposure to thin-ideal images. Restrained eaters (n=39) and unrestrained eaters (n=40) were randomly assigned to a self-activation manipulation versus a control manipulation. After the manipulation, all participants were exposed to eight thin-idea...
