Diabetes mellitus (DM) is an important global public health problem. Despite the availability of drug therapy, patients have continued using plants with anti-diabetic properties as alternative treatments for diabetes. Cucurbita ficifolia Bouché (C. ficifolia) is a plant cultivated in Mexico for its edible fruit that is medicinally used to control type 2 DM (T2D). The hypoglycemic effect of C. f...

Based on the data about structure and antidiabetic activity of twenty seven vanadium and zinc coordination complexes collected from literature we developed QSAR models using the GUSAR program. These QSAR models were applied to 10 novel vanadium coordination complexes designed in silico in order to predict their hypoglycemic action. The five most promising substances with predicted potent hypogl...

Patients who use insulin or oral hypoglycemic medications are at the greatest risk for hypoglycemia. These patients experience mild, self-treated hypoglycemic episodes about twice per week. Severe hypoglycemia, which requires the assistance of another person to regain euglycemia, is experienced at least once per year by 27% of patients treated with intensive insulin regimens. Hypoglycemia is th...

The aim of this study was to determine whether the duration of antecedent hypoglycemia regulates the magnitude of subsequent counterregulatory failure. A total of 31 lean healthy overnight-fasted individuals (16 men/15 women) were studied. There were 15 subjects (8 men/7 women) who underwent two separate 2-day randomized experiments separated by at least 2 months. On day 1, 2-h hyperinsulinemic...

Islet allotransplantation can provide prolonged insulin independence in selected individuals with type 1 diabetes. Whether islet transplantation also restores hypoglycemic counterregulation is unclear. To determine if hypoglycemic counterregulation is restored by islet transplantation, we studied hormone responses and hypoglycemic symptom recognition in seven insulin-independent islet transplan...

BACKGROUND Add-on Lantus® to Oral Hypoglycemic Agents (ALOHA), an observational, non-interventional, 24-week post-marketing surveillance study in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) having uncontrolled glycemic control, demonstrated that basal supported oral therapy (BOT) with insulin glargine was an effective and safe treatment in real-life clinical practice. We performed subgroup an...

Background. Radix Paeoniae Rubra (Chi Shao) contains several phytochemicals with hypoglycemic actions. Current research aims to explore potential insulinotropic effects and long-term therapeutic efficacy of such herb against type 2 diabetes. Methods. Composition analysis for the ethanol extract (PRExt) was executed by high performance liquid chromatography. Polyphenol-enriched fraction was char...

BACKGROUND Older adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) or insulin-using type 2 diabetes (iT2D) are at high risk for severe hypoglycemic episodes. Real-time continuous glucose monitoring (RT-CGM) in this population may reduce this risk, but when patients switch to Medicare at age 65, RT-CGM is no longer a covered benefit. We developed a survey to examine health and quality of life (QOL) benefits of ...

Indigenous plants such as Ocimum Sancium, Aegle marmelos, Azadiracta indica, and Murraya koenigii decreased the blood sugar of streptozotocin diabetic rabbits. The most effective drug Aegle marmelos in different solvents showed different rate of hypoglycemic action. On feeding streptozotocin to diabetic rabbits for a period of 3 months aegle marmelos showed remarkable hypoglycemic action.
