screening methods that are effective in the early stage of growth will potentially provide the largest quantity of breeding material. although various screening methods under greenhouse have been proposed, potential effective approaches must be described a good correlation with results under field conditions. this study was aimed to assess the correlations between traits obtained from four salt...

abstract effect of cr3+ concentrations (1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 mg l-1) on lipid peroxidation / mda production and antioxidative enzyme activity (apox, sod, and ppox) in root and leaf tissues of sweet basil seedlings (ocimum basilicum l.) during 6week treatment in hydroponic culture was studied. increasing cr3+ in the culture medium (≥4 mg l-1) caused significant enhancement of apox, sod, and ppox ac...

Arabidopsis thaliana is a suitable model plant for genetic and molecular biology studies in higher plants. However, its hydroponic culture for biochemical and physiological studies is a challenge due to small size, capillary roots and little biomass at maturity. Several cultural systems have been suggested for Arabidopsis thaliana hydroponic culture, each having special advantages and disadvant...

INTRODUCTION There is an increasing need to recirculate and reuse nutrient solutions in order to reduce environmental and economic costs. However, one of the weakest points in hydroponics is the lack of information on managing the nutrient solution. Many growers and research scientists dump out nutrient solutions and refill at weekly intervals. Other authors have recommended measuring the conce...

Methylobacterium species colonize plant surfaces and utilize methanol emitted from plants. Methylobacterium aquaticum strain 22A was isolated from a hydroponic culture of a moss, Racomitrium japonicum, and is a potent plant growth promoter. The complete genome sequencing of the strain confirmed the presence of genes related to plant growth promotion and methylotrophy.

Green onions grown in soil and hydroponic medium contaminated with Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella were found to take up the pathogens in their roots, bulbs, stems, and leaves. Pressure treatment at 400 to 500 MPa for 2 min at 20 to 40°C eliminated both pathogens that were internalized within green onions during plant growth.

Phosphate (Pi), an essential macronutrient for growth and development of plant, is often limiting in soils. Plants have evolved an array of adaptive strategies including modulation of root system architecture (RSA) for optimal acquisition of Pi. In rice, a major staple food, RSA is complex and comprises embryonically developed primary and seminal roots and post-embryonically developed adventiti...

BACKGROUND Although the aerial parts of hydroponic Panax ginseng are reported to contain higher contents of total ginsenosides than those of roots, the isolation and identification of active metabolites from the aerial parts of hydroponic P. ginseng have not been carried out so far. METHODS The aerial parts of hydroponic P. ginseng were applied on repeated silica gel and octadecylsilane colum...
