Mesoporous materials have a high potential for a number of different applications in Materials Science such as in molecular sieving, as masks for the formation of nanometre-sized metallic wires, as novel drug-delivery systems or as advanced host systems for catalysis. For many of these applications a thorough understanding of the interaction of guest molecules within the host matrix is required...

The title compound, C(38)H(26)O(2)·C(6)H(7)N, crystallized as a host-guest complex from a solvent mixture of 4-methyl-pyridine and acetone. The dihedral angle between the rings in the biphenyl unit is 87.06 (3)°. The methyl-pyridine guest mol-ecules are linked to the host mol-ecules via O-H⋯ N hydrogen bonds, forming discrete pairs. The other OH group of the host forms an intra-molecular O-H⋯O ...

The first supramolecular star polymer based on pseudorotaxane host-guest complexation was prepared from statistical complexation of a homotritopic tris(crown ether) host and monotopic paraquat-terminated polystyrene guest in solution. The formation of this supramolecular star polymer was confirmed by proton NMR characterization and viscosity studies.

The adsorption properties of a new nanoporous organic zeolite with respect to acetylene and Ar were studied by volumetric adsorption analysis, microcalorimetric experiments, and synchrotron high-resolution X-ray powder diffraction. This allowed us to locate the guest molecules inside the host channels and characterize the host-guest interactions.

From the reaction of CuICN with conc-NH4OH, a host-guest type 3D network complex , [[CuII(NH3)4(H2O)](H2O)@[CuI3(CN)5]]n was isolated and characterised. A unique cationic complex guest [CuII(NH3)4(H2O)]2+ is encapsulated in the anionic host cage [CuI3(CN)5]2-.

cis-Diaminostilbene dihydrochloride encapsulated in cucurbit[7]uril does not spontaneously isomerize to the trans isomer at room temperature as a result of the strong host-guest interactions including strong hydrogen bonds between the two protonated amine termini of the C-shaped guest and the portal oxygen atoms of the host.

The origins, definitions, tools, and guiding principles of host-guest chemistry are developed. Perching, nesting, and capsular complexes are exemplified through molecular model and crystal structure comparisons. The degree of preorganization of a host for binding is a central determinant of its binding power. Complementarity of binding site placement in host and guest is a central determinant o...

Rb-IV is the stable high-pressure phase of rubidium between 16 and 21 GPa. The structure of Rb-IV has long been known to be complex, but it is only recently that it has been solved as being an incommensurate host-guest composite structure, comprising a tetragonal host framework containing chains of ”guest” atoms that form structures incommensurate with the host along their common caxis. While s...
