A Co(3)O(4) monolayer hollow-sphere array with mesoporous walls exhibits high pseudocapacitances of 358 F g(-1) at 2 A g(-1) and 305 F g(-1) at 40 A g(-1), as well as excellent cycling stability for application as pseudocapacitors.

Herein, we report that octahedral and spherical Cu2O samples with hollow structures are synthesized in high yield by reducing Cu(EDA)22+ complex with hydrazine. A series of experiments are carried out to investigate the factors which impact on the morphology of the Cu2O samples. It is observed that ethylenediamine (EDA) serves as a molecular template in the formation of hollow structure. Octahe...

Vertically aligned ZnO nanowires have been synthesized by a hydrothermal method. After being irradiated by a short laser pulse, the tips of the as-synthesized ZnO nanowires can be tailored into a spherical shape. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that the spherical tip is a single-crystalline piece connected to the body of the ZnO nanowire, and that the center of the sphere is hollow. T...

We present a novel method for estimating 3-D positions of near light sources by using highlights on the outside and inside of a single clear hollow sphere. Conventionally, the positions of near light sources have been estimated by using observed highlights on multiple reference objects, e.g. mirror balls.

The formation of a hollow cellular sphere is often one of the first steps of multicellular embryonic development. In the case of Hydra, the sphere breaks its initial symmetry to form a foot-head axis. During this process a gene, ks1, is increasingly expressed in localized cell domains whose size distribution becomes scale-free at the axis-locking moment. We show that a physical model based sole...

In this paper, we investigate the vortex nucleation on a thin superconducting hollow sphere. The problem is studied using a simplified system of Ginzburg–Landau equations. We present numerical algorithms which preserve the discrete gauge invariance for both time dependent and time independent simulations. The spatial discretization is based on a spherical centroidal Voronoi tessellation which o...

Recent progress in both diagnostic and therapeutic technique of hepatocellular carcinoma appears to improve the prognosis. The purpose of this study was designed to evaluate the prognosis of HCC in relation to treatment methods and their affecting factors by the treestructured model. This paper attempt to identify and quantify the effect of prognostic factors namely, patient characteristics tha...

[1] The ability of an assembly of spheres to represent scattering and absorption by a nonspherical ice crystal of the same volume-to-area (V/A) ratio was previously evaluated for convex shapes (circular cylinders and hexagonal prisms). Here we extend the comparison to indented and hollow prisms, which are common in ice clouds. In the equivalent-sphere representation, the crystal mass and surfac...
