Biliary vomiting developed 16 mo after resection of adenocarcinoma of the esophagus in a patient with a complex postoperative course. A biliary scan revealed an outline of the pericardium, suggesting a fistula. The potential role of radionuclide imaging in this rare and potentially fatal complication is discussed.
We present a full-term male neonate with no relevant family history, with prenatal diagnosis using ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of cystic lesion that supports the differential diagnosis between choledochal cyst and normal gall bladder. Initial abdominal ultrasound (Fig. 1) showed an intrahepatic cystic lesion suggestive of mesenchymal hamartoma or choledochal cyst. In a ...
Hepatobiliary scintigraphy for detecting biliary strictures after living donor liver transplantation
We report a 71-year-old man who had undergone pylorus-preserving pancreatoduodenectomy (PPPD) using PPPD-IV reconstruction for cholangiocarcinoma. For 6 years thereafter, he had suffered recurrent cholangitis, and also a right liver abscess (S5/8), which required percutaneous drainage at 9 years after PPPD. At 16 years after PPPD, he had been admitted to the other hospital because of acute puru...
A 39-year-old woman with acute cholecystitis and gallstones underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy. She suffered from recurrent episodes of cholangitis due to injury of the major bile ducts during laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Hepatobiliary scintigraphy with Tc-99m Sn-N-pyridoxyl-5-methyltryptophan was performed. Although normal bile excretion was found from the left hepatic duct to the percuta...
Hepatobiliary scintigraphy with 99mTc-HIDA offers a noninvasive method to detect duodenogastric reflux. Biliary reflux was graded using the persistence rather than the intensity of the radioactive refluxate: Grade 0 was considered the absence of reflux, minimal reflux, or reflux in the first 10-15 min; Grade 1 was repetitive reflux lasting less than 10 min; Grade 2 was persistent reflux; and Gr...
UNLABELLED Hepatic resection is the therapy of choice for malignant and symptomatic benign hepatobiliary tumors. The concept of remnant liver volume (RLV) has been introduced and can be assessed with CT. However, inhomogeneous liver function distribution and a lack of correlation between morphologic hypertrophy and functional recovery fuelled the enthusiasm for functional imaging. The aim of th...
Hepatobiliary scintigraphy (HBS) is a widely used modality to diagnose biliary injury. In patients with a history of trauma or surgery, the common presentations of bile leaks on HBS are a progressive collection of radiotracer outside the biliary system. However, the precise localization of a bile leak is usually not conveyed by noninvasive techniques including CT or ultrasound or even HBS. This...
