The harmonic oscillator is a paradigm of predictability. The resonance response of a harmonic oscillator can be exploited to make clocks accurate to 1 part in 10. Harmonic oscillations are normally observed in systems operating near equilibrium and governed by linear or “Hooke’s law” restoring forces. Nonetheless, for small enough excursions from equilibrium, systems governed by nonlinear resto...

This paper reports on a dielectrically actuated and piezoresistively sensed 4.41 GHz silicon bar resonator with an electromechanical Q (Qem) of 8180. The 2-port piezoresistive transconductance measurement performed provides a promising alternative to capacitive measurement at high frequencies, where nominal and feed-through capacitance often dominates the output signal. The electromechanical f·...

We study the effects of the confining conditions on the occurrence of stochastic resonance (SR) in continuous bistable systems. We model such systems by means of double-well potentials that diverge like |x| for |x| → ∞. For super-harmonic (hard) potentials with q > 2 the SR peak sharpens with increasing q, whereas for sub-harmonic (soft) potentials, q < 2, it gets suppressed. PACS. 05.40.-a Flu...

Harmonics have become an important issue in modern power systems. The widespread penetration of non-linear loads to emerging power systems has turned power quality analysis into an important operation issue under both steady state and transient conditions. This paper employs an Extended Harmonic Domain (EHD) based framework for dynamic analysis of long term analysis over voltages during the tra...

ABSTRACT: A prismatic beam made of a behaviorally nonlinear material situated on nonlinear elastic foundation is analyzed under a moving harmonic load moving with a known velocity. The vibration equation of motion    is derived using Hamilton principle and Euler Lagrange equation. The amplitude of vibration, circular frequency, bending moment, stress and deflection of the beam can be calculat...
