During the last decades studies addressing the effects of exposure to Extremely Low Frequency Electromagnetic Fields (ELF-EMF) have pointed out a possible link between those fields emitted by power lines and childhood leukaemia. They have also stressed the importance of also including in the assessment the contribution of frequency components, namely harmonics, other than the fundamental one. B...

Combination tones (CTs) produced by acoustic stimuli have been studied by many authors as an efficient way to learn about the numerous physiological nonlinearities involved in auditory processing. As far as perception is concerned, CTs have been proposed as a basis for the perception of the pitch of the missing fundamental (Helmholtz, 1877). It has since been shown that the missing fundamental ...

It is shown that the even and odd coherent light and other nonclassical states of light like superposition of coherent states with different phases may replace the squeezed light in interferometric gravitational wave detector to increase its sensitivity. We discuss the origin of the difference between the harmonic value of the width of the multiphonon giant resonances and the smaller observed value. Analytical expressions are derived for both the effective width and the average cross-section. The contribution of the Brink-Axel mechanism in resolving the discrepancy is pointed out. . ∗Supported in part by CNPq and FAPESP.

We present a perturbation theory to find the response of an anisotropic DNA to the external tension. It is shown that the anisotropy has a nonzero but small contribution to the force-extension curve of the DNA. Thus an anisotropic DNA behaves like an isotropic one with an effective bending constant equal to the harmonic average of its soft and hard bending constants.

Abstract: Based on Hartree-Fock theory with correlations, approximate solutions of the manybody Schrödinger equation are examined for their use for calculations of nuclear reaction rates for charged Bose nuclei confined in a harmonic trap. It is shown that the nuclear reaction rate calculated with the Hartree-Fock mean field solution makes a significant contribution even in the presence of two-...

The present contribution is concern with an exact framebased expansion of planar initial time-harmonic electromagnetic fields. The propagating field is described as a discrete superposition of tilted and shifted electromagnetic beam waveobjects over the frame spatial-spectral lattice. Explicit asymptotic expressions for the electromagnetic Gaussian beam propagators are obtained for the commonly...
