We characterize planar microcavities in whispering-gallery mode optical resonances. The microcavity consists of a waveguide and a microdisk, and a nanoscale gap separates the waveguide and the microdisk. The devices can be fabricated on Si-based thin films by using conventional microelectronics techniques. To characterize these types of cavity, we study a broad range of resonator configuration ...

The authors present the design and fabrication of a nanophotonic waveguide and photodetector integrated device by molecular self-assembly of nanocrystal quantum dots (QD) and two different nano-gap formation techniques, namely electromigration-induced break-junction technique and electron beam lithography nano-gap patterning. A QD waveguide with 50 nm width integrated with a nano-scale QD photo...

We demonstrate that in a hybrid plasmonic system the optical force exerted on a dielectric waveguide by a metallic substrate is enhanced by more than 1 order of magnitude compared to the force between a photonic waveguide and a dielectric substrate. A nanoscale gap between the dielectric waveguide and the metallic substrate leads to deep subwavelength optical energy confinement with ultralow mo...

The mode stabilization behavior of the buried active wave guide with lateral diffused junction is theoretically investigated. The study shows that for an active waveguide of width around 5 pm with a lateral diffused junction in the middle, the single fundamental transverse mode is preferred as the injection level is raised. The theoretical results are found to be in good agreement with experime...

We proposed the dielectric filling in a vgroove on GaAs wafer. In order to fabricate easily, the channel plasmon polaritons waveguide is proposed and analyzed, compared to conventional optical waveguide based on multi-epitaxial layer. The propagation loss is analyzed using 3-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method. We obtained the propagation loss of 1.02 dB / 30 μm.

Groove chambers with different pitch and gap height have been tested. Gas amplifications of the order of a few times 10 have been obtained. Combining a groove structure with a GEM pre-amplification foil a gas gain of 10 was reached. The device is robust and can be produced at low cost in large sizes by a laser technique.

Abstract A dual-band dual-linearly polarized waveguide slot array antenna is proposed in this paper. Two orthogonal slots share a short-circuit wall on broad side. The horizontal and vertical slots, which actualize dual-frequency bands dual-linear polarization, generate vertically electric fields 9.39–9.78 GHz horizontally 11.62–12.3 GHz, respectively. equivalent permittivity of the changed by ...

We show, via simulations, that an optical fiber taper waveguide can be an efficient tool for photoluminescence and resonant, extinction spectroscopy of single emitters, such as molecules or colloidal quantum dots, deposited on the surface of a thin dielectric membrane. Placed over a high refractive index membrane, a tapered fiber waveguide induces the formation of hybrid mode waves, akin to die...

This report characterizes the whispering-gallery mode (WGM) resonators with the design of waveguide and microdisk coupling microstructure. In order to understand and optimize the design, studies over a broad range of resonator configuration parameters including the microdisk size, the gap separating the microdisk and waveguide, and the waveguide width are numerically conducted. The finite eleme...

DNA bending induced by six DNA (cytosine-5) methyltransferases was studied using circular permutation gel mobility shift assay. The following bend angles were obtained: M.BSP:RI (GG(m5)CC), 46-50 degrees; M.HAE:III (GG(m5)CC), 40-43 degrees; M.SIN:I (GGW(m5)CC), 34-37 degrees; M.SAU:96I (GGN(m5)CC), 52-57 degrees; M.HPA:II (C(m5)CGG), 30 degrees; and M.HHA:I (G(m5)CGC), 13 degrees. M. HAE:III w...
