We consider the problem of gravitational forces between point particles on the branes in a Randall-Sundrum (R-S) two brane model with S 1 /Z 2 symmetry. Matter is assumed to produce a perturbation to the R-S vacuum metric and all the 5D Einstein equations are solved to linearized order (for arbitrary matter on both branes). We show that while the gauge condition h i5 = 0, i = 0, 1, 2, 3 can alw...

In this document we will discuss three types of waves: wind-driven waves, tides and tsunamis. When the wind blows on the surface of the ocean it produces ripples, waves, and swell. Gravitational forces (mostly from the moon and sun) plus centrifugal forces in the solar system produce tides. Tectonic forces such as earthquakes that cause vertical displacements of the ocean floor, submarine volca...

It is shown that the universal property of gravitational field to slow down the rate of time leads in the field theory to a fundamental property — generation of effective forces of repulsion. There is a common belief that the gravitational field provides only forces of attraction. It is seen, for example, from the fact that the physical velocity of a test body increases when it is approaching t...

We demonstrate how the ineluctable presence of thermal noise alters the measurement of forces acting on microscopic and nanoscopic objects. We quantify this effect exemplarily for a Brownian particle near a wall subjected to gravitational and electrostatic forces. Our results demonstrate that the force-measurement process is prone to artifacts if the noise is not correctly taken into account.

Sequences of infinitesimally thin, uniformly rotating, self-gravitating relativistic discs with internal two-dimensional pressure have been constructed. It is shown that in weaker relativistic configurations the sequences undergo a continuous bifurcation from a disc to a ring structure, while in stronger relativistic cases the sequences terminate at the mass-shed limit where gravitational force...
