This article presents an agent-based fuzzy cognitive map (ABFCM) developed injecting the concept of multi-agent system (MAS) into the fuzzy cognitive map (FCM). Fuzzy cognitive map is used for qualitative modeling and simulation. Compared to the FCM, the ABFCM enables different inference algorithms in each node enabling simulation of systems with diverse behavior concepts. Each map node can exh...

This paper focus on the comparison between Rule Based Fuzzy Cognitive Maps and Fuzzy Cognitive Maps. The paper shows FCM limitations to represent nonmonotonic non-symmetric causal relations, presents results that exhibit the stability of RBFCM in systems where FCM is not stable due to its non-fuzzy inherent nature and presents RBFCM potential to model qualitative real-world dynamic systems.

This paper describes the architecture for a virtual agent and the implementation of its Affection Module. A novel affective model is proposed based on Probabilistic Fuzzy Cognitive Map to simulate the emotion transferring stimulated process, and the corresponding algorithm is presented. To testify the reasonableness and effectiveness of the affective model, we simulate by MATLAB and the give a ...

The purpose of this paper is to describe a fuzzy cognitive map based on the random neural network model, and to illustrate its application in the modeling of process. This model is based on the probability of activation of the neurons/concepts in the network. Our model carries out inferences via numerical calculation instead of symbolic deduction. The arcs define dynamic relationships between c...

The prediction of multivariate time series is one of the targeted applications of evolutionary fuzzy cognitive maps (FCM). The objective of the research presented in this paper was to construct the FCM model of prostate cancer using real clinical data and then to apply this model to the prediction of patient’s health state. Due to the requirements of the problem state, an improved evolutionary ...

An important question is how to determine if a person is exhibiting suicidal tendencies in behavior, speech, or writing. This paper demonstrates a method of analyzing written material to determine whether or not a person is suicidal or not. The method involves an analysis of word frequencies that are then translated into a fuzzy cognitive map that will be able to determine if the word frequency...

Α generic system for simulating complex dynamical systems along the paradigm of fuzzy cognitive maps (FCM) has been created and tested. The proposed system enables a user to design appropriate FCM structures, by specifying the desired concepts and the various parameters such as sensitivities, as well as a variety of shaping functions. The user is able to see the results, change the parameters, ...

In this paper, we compare the inference capabilities of three different types of fuzzy cognitive maps (FCMs). A fuzzy cognitive map is a recurrent artificial neural network that creates models as collections of concepts/neurons and the various causal relations that exist between these concepts/neurons. In the paper, a variety of industry/engineering FCM applications is presented. The three diff...

In many practical situations, the relation between the experts’ degrees of confidence in different related statements is well described by Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCM). This empirical success is somewhat puzzling, since from the mathematical viewpoint, each FCM relation corresponds to a simplified one-neuron neural network, and it is well known that to adequately describe relations, we need multi...

Most decision-making processes are dynamic. Critical decisions require multiple and interrelated time-constrained decisions within strongly uncertain and so complex scenarios. The proposed methodology (mixing Delphi, Fuzzy Cognitive Maps and TOPSIS) and is a step forward with regard to the classic tools used in scenarios-based decision-support. This proposal allows managing uncertainty for impr...
