Intuitively, if two strings S1 and S2 are sufficiently similar and we already have an FM-index for S1 then, by storing a little extra information, we should be able to reuse parts of that index in an FM-index for S2. Here, we prove that if (Fn)n≥1 is the Fibonacci sequence, then the only solutions of the equation σk(Fm) = Fn in positive integers k ≥ 2, m and n have k = 2 and m ∈ {1, 2, 3}.
