Mechanics course in vocational colleges faces challenges such as a lack of physical equipment, insufficient hands-on experience, difficulty visualizing abstract concepts, and cost safety concerns associated with experiments. This paper explores the application finite element technology (FET) overcoming these improving mechanics teaching colleges. FET is simulation-based method that can provide ...

A silicon nanowire field effect transistor (FET) straddled by the double-gate was demonstrated for biosensor application. The separated double-gates, G1 (primary) and G2 (secondary), allow independent voltage control to modulate channel potential. Therefore, the detection sensitivity was enhanced by the use of G2. By applying weakly positive bias to G2, the sensing window was significantly broa...

We propose a nanosensor with a biological active part able to identify specific odorants. The biological part should be constituted by olfactory receptors pertaining to the G protein-coupled receptors, the most efficient natural sensors for odorant discrimination. Modeling, design, and experiments performed for proving the concept are reported and discussed.

Nanobiosensors can be built via functionalization of atomic force microscopy (AFM) tips with biomolecules capable of interacting with the analyte on a substrate, and the detection being performed by measuring the force between the immobilized biomolecule and the analyte. The optimization of such sensors may require multiple experiments to determine suitable experimental conditions for the immob...

This work presents a systematic study toward the design and first demonstration of high-performance n-type monolayer tungsten diselenide (WSe2) field effect transistors (FET) by selecting the contact metal based on understanding the physics of contact between metal and monolayer WSe2. Device measurements supported by ab initio density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that the d-orb...

We demonstrate that the conductance of a field-effect transistor ~FET! gated by a layer of nanometer-sized quantum dots is sensitive to the absorption of single photons. Rather than relying upon an avalanche process, as in conventional semiconductor single-photon detectors, the gain in this device derives from the fact that the conductivity of the FET channel is very sensitive to the photoexcit...

The Ag nanoparticle based localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) nanosensor yields ultrasensitive biodetection with extremely simple, small, light, robust, and low-cost instrumentation. Using LSPR spectroscopy, the model system, biotinylated surface-confined Ag nanotriangles, was used to detect less than one picomolar up to micromolar concentrations of streptavidin. Additionally, the monito...
