Femoral nerve neuropathy after total hip arthroplasty is rare but catastrophic complication. Pain and quadriceps muscle weakness caused by this complication can significantly affect the functional outcome. Here we present a case report, describing delayed onset femoral nerve palsy associated with iliopsoas hematoma following pseudoaneurysm of a branch of profunda femoris artery after 3 months o...

Pathological fracture is a rare but serious complication of radiotherapy. We report on a 44-year-old man who presented with a subtrochanteric femoral fracture 15 years after radiotherapy for a soft-tissue sarcoma in the thigh. We discuss its potential causes, a scoring system to identify high-risk patients for prophylactic intramedullary nailing of the femur, and radiographic signs to identify ...

Accidental intra-arterial injection as a consequence of drug misuse has been described in both the upper and lower limbs. A life threatening haemorrhage necessitated ligation of the common femoral artery. His limb survived.

Investigation into thigh pain in two girl gymnasts has established the likely relationship between the point of impact on the thighs during exercises on the asymmetric bars and mild neuropathy of the lateral femoral cutaenous nerve. The clinical and biomechanical steps taken to elucidate the problem are described. Local infiltration of anaesthetic has confirmed a definitive diagnosis of meralgi...

NERVE injury is a well-recognized complication of peripheral nerve blocks. Capdevila et al. reported an incidence of 0.21% in a large prospective multicenter study including more than 1,400 patients with perineural catheters. Beside factors related to the regional anesthesia technique, other causes such as concomitant patient disease, inadequate positioning or manipulation during surgery, and t...

Femoral mononeuropathy (FMN) as an extraarticular finding of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a phenomenon which has not been reported previously. We report a 53-year-old female patient with RA, presenting FMN findings during the course of the disease. On examination, right quadriceps and iliopsoas muscles showed grade 3 weakness on the Medical Research Council (MRC) scale. Sensory examination reve...
