This paper proposes a novel vector-based approach towards isolation of faulty sensors in multivariate dynamic processes. The main contributions are: (1) a set of structured residual vectors is employed for fault isolation; (2) a unified scheme for isolation of single and multiple faulty sensors is proposed; and (3) the optimality of fault detection and isolation is proven. This paper proposes a fault diagnosis method using a timed discrete-event approach based on interval observers which improves the integration of fault detection and isolation tasks. The interface between fault detection and fault isolation considers the degree of fault signal activation and the occurrence time of the diagnostic signals using a combination of several theoretical fault signature ...

The problem of fault detection and isolation of parametric faults is considered in this paper. A fault detection problem based on parametric faults are associated with internal parameter variations in the dynamical system. A fault detection and isolation method for parametric faults is formulated in a standard setup and a synthesis method for the fault detector is given. Further, fault detectio...

Fault isolation is the process of reasoning required to find the cause of a system failure. In a model-based approach, the available information is a model of the system and some observations. Using knowledge of how the system generally behaves, as given in the system model, together with partial observations of the events of the current situation the task is to deduce the failure causing event...

This paper presents an adaptive fault-tolerant control (FTC) scheme for a class of nonlinear uncertain multi-agent systems. A local FTC scheme is designed for each agent using local measurements and suitable information exchanged between neighboring agents. Each local FTC scheme consists of a fault diagnosis module and a reconfigurable controller module comprised of a baseline controller and tw...

In this paper, fault tolerant compensation for non-linear plants is addressed. Soft fault detection and isolation is performed for a partial sensor fault detection. New method is proposed that combine model predictive controllers with fuzzy Takagi-Sugeno models. An example is presented that illustrates the functionality of the proposed method. Keywords— Fault tolerant control, Fault detection a...

Generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) for directional residual based fault isolation is studied in this paper. The conditional probability of correct fault isolation is used to measure the performance of the test. The explicit form of this probability is derived with the help of two GLRT invariant properties and the standard fault isolation subspace. The effect of linear transformation is st...

Fault diagnosis in the presence of noise and model errors is of fundamental importance. In the paper, the meaning of fault isolation performance is formalized by using the established notion of coverage and false coverage from the field of statistics. Then formal relations describing the relationship between fault isolation performance and the residual related design parameters are derived. For...

The purpose of the paper is to present an approach to detect, isolate and accommodate the sensor or actuator faults using bank of observer and unknown input observers (UIO). Full order observers, reduced order observers, unknown input observers and Kalman Filter are widely used in state estimations [1]. After the estimation of states, fault detection and isolation can be provided by conducting ...

For a typical MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) nonlinear dynamic system, fault detection and isolation usually aim at process faults with an assumption that actuator faults and sensor faults do not occur at the same time, which is not always the case. This paper uses Extended State Observer for real-time process fault detection and fuzzy inference for fault isolation. It then investigates ...
