Increased pulmonary vascular pressure and decreased right-ventricular performance may occur following pneumonectomy. Inhaled nitric oxide decreases right-ventricular afterload and improves cardiac index by selectively decreasing pulmonary vascular resistance without causing systemic hypotension. We report the use of inhaled nitric oxide in a patient with acute right-ventricular dysfunction afte...
Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a spindle cell neoplasm of mesenchymal origin that typically arises from the pleura. Several extrapleural sites have also been described, including the orbit, lacrimal gland fossa, and lacrimal sac. We present the clinical, imaging, and histopathologic findings of an SFT arising from the sclera that manifested as an intraocular mass with extrascleral extension.
There are few reports of primary malignant tumours of the pleura other than mesothelioma. Reports of squamous-cell carcinoma of the pleura are especially rare. Epidermoid carcinoma of the pleura may occur in connection with persistent empyema drained by a pleurocutaneous fistula or long-standing extrapleural pneumothorax without fistula.
Solitary fibrous tumor is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm that usually originates from the pleura, but has been reported in other extrapleural locations. We report a rare case of a solitary fibrous tumor of the stomach, which was successfully treated with endoscopic mucosal resection.
Transthoracic needle biopsy is considered to be safe and effective for the diagnosis of focal lung lesions. The aim of the present study was to evaluate factors affecting the accuracy and safety of automated cutting needle lung biopsy (ACNB) using a new extrapleural locating (EPL) method. Computed tomography (CT)-guided needle biopsies were performed on 1,065 patients between March 2005 and May...
