A BENIGN calcifying epithelioma is a subcutaneous tumour, first described by Malherbe and Chenantais (1880), who called it l'epitheliome calcifie des glandes sebacees. Malherbe (1881, 1905) added more details, but only four examples of such tumours have been reported in the ophthalmic literature (Ashton, 1951; Kornblueth and Liban, 1955). Histological examination of material from the Radcliffe ...
Eighteen cases of Cushing's syndrome caused by ectopic production of peptide hormones were investigated by histological and immunocytochemical methods and the findings correlated with clinical and biochemical observations. Immunocytochemistry showed immunoreactive adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) or peptides derived from the ACTH precursor (pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC], or both, in a total of...

This report concerns the case of an unusual tumour of the epididymis, i.e. a haemangioma. This led to secondary extensive bleeding and haemorrhagic infarcting of the testis and the epididymis. Frequency, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, therapy and prognosis of the tumours of the epididymis are also discussed.
Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most aggressive form of primary brain tumours known collectively as gliomas. Gliomas are graded by their microscopic appearance. As a rule, their behaviour can be predicted from histology: Grade I (pilocytic astrocytomas) and Grade II (benign astrocytomas) tumours are of low grade and grow slowly over many years. Grade IV tumours (GBM) are the most aggressiv...

Certain tumours of the testis in man cause symptoms of a feminizing nature and arouse interest and comment out of all proportion to the frequency of their occurrence. Although these tumours are rare, the literature is extensive, as most of the cases tend to be reported, and their hormonal effects have been the subject of much conjecture and speculation. Despite all that has been written, this p...
In Indian rhinoceros, extensive leiomyoma, a benign smooth muscle tumour, was sporadically diagnosed post mortem and commonly thought of as contributing factor for reduced fecundity of this species in captivity. However, to date, the prevalence of reproductive tract tumours and their relevance for fecundity are unknown. Our analysis of the international studbook now reveals that females cease r...
A series comprising 26 patients with bronchial adenoma, consisting of 23 carcinoid tumours, 2 mucoepidermoid tumours, and 1 cylindroma, treated during the period 1956-71 is presented. Eighteen of the carcinoid adenomas showed invasive growth, and six had metastases, five with lymph node metastases and one with hepatic metastases without node involvement (Case 17) at the time of operation. Both ...
