Estimating treatment effects via propensity scores is a widespread method in the treatment evaluation literature. However, covariates are often measured with error, leading to biased propensity score estimates. Using validation data to correct for this measurement error is a persistent topic in the limited dependent variable context yet assuming the former to be a random subsample with respect ...

Despite the growing popularity of propensity score (PS) methods in epidemiology, relatively little has been written in the epidemiologic literature about the problem of variable selection for PS models. The authors present the results of two simulation studies designed to help epidemiologists gain insight into the variable selection problem in a PS analysis. The simulation studies illustrate ho...

Background & Aims: Medication errors commonly occur in clinical nursing. The present study aimed to determine the causes of medication errors, their lack of report, and their frequency in intensive care units (ICUs). Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted on 300 nurses engaged in the ICUs and critical care units of three teaching hospitals affiliated to Qom ...

Uncertainty concerning the measurement error properties of self-reported diet has important implications for the reliability of nutritional epidemiology reports. Biomarkers based on the urinary recovery of expended nutrients can provide an objective measure of short-term nutrient consumption for certain nutrients and, when applied to a subset of a study cohort, can be used to calibrate correspo...

The determination of an accurate centre of rotation (CoR) from skin markers is essential for the assessment of abnormal gait patterns in clinical gait analysis. Despite the many functional approaches to estimate CoRs, no non-invasive analytical determination of the error in the reconstructed joint location is currently available. The purpose of this study was therefore to verify the residual of...

In speaker verification, a claimed speaker’s score is computed to accept or reject the speaker claim. Most of the current normalisation methods compute the score as the ratio of the claimed speaker’s and the impostors’ likelihood functions. Based on analysing false acceptance error occured by the current methods, we propose a fuzzy c-means clusteringbased normalisation method to find a better s...

Propensity score methods are increasingly being used to estimate the effects of treatments on health outcomes using observational data. There are four methods for using the propensity score to estimate treatment effects: covariate adjustment using the propensity score, stratification on the propensity score, propensity-score matching, and inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) using ...

Grammatical error detection and automated essay scoring are two tasks in the area of automated assessment. Traditionally these tasks have been treated independently with different machine learning models and features used for each task. In this paper, we develop a multi-task neural network model that jointly optimises for both tasks, and in particular we show that neural automated essay scoring...

We evaluated the effect of providing error-flagging, i.e., error detection but not error-correction support, during testing. We found that error-flagging is not a substitute for knowing the correct answer. It does not help students game the tutor. But, it does help students improve their test score.
