The electrical conductivity of seeded (with potassium) combustion products of six varieties of Indian coal with enriched air have been analytically evaluated to investigate the feasibility of using them as working fuels for coal-tired MHD generators. The analysis takes into account the effect of sulphur and ash on the conductivity of combustion products.

Individuals high in anxiety sensitivity (AS), a cognitive risk factor denoting a fear of anxiety-related sensations (Reiss & McNally, 1985), may be at increased risk of misinterpreting nicotine withdrawal-relevant interoceptive cues as harmful, thus amplifying their risk for panic problems. This study tested the moderating role of AS on the association between nicotine withdrawal and panic-rele...

Weather fleck observed on certain varieties of tobacco since 1052 at the U.S. r)epartment of Agriculture Plant Industry Station, Beltsville, Md., may be indicative of an ozone air pollr~tion problem arising in the Washington, I1.C. area. A study of ozone concentrations and meteorological conditions existing prior to and at the time of the occurrence of weather fleck indicates that the high ozon...

OBJECTIVE This study tested whether functional somatic symptoms are associated with exaggerated increases in self-reported anxiety and somatic complaints in response to stress and CO(2)-enriched air breathing, and whether this association exists in parallel to or in the absence of exaggerated physiological responses. METHODS Out of 499 young somatically healthy undergraduate women, 18 partici...

Panic disorder is characterized by the paroxysmal occurrence and fear of bodily symptoms. In recent years it has been proposed that patients "learn" to fear cardiorespiratory sensations through interoceptive conditioning. This study sought to model the initial stage of this process in healthy volunteers (N=44) using mild cardiac sensations. An additional aim was to explore whether anxiety sensi...

Growth characteristics, oxygen exchange, and carbohydrate and chlorophyll contents were determined 30 days after subculturing of single node-derived plantlets of Solanum tuberosum cv Haig cultivated in vitro. Cultivation conditions were: (a) photomixotrophy in closed vessel, (b) photomixotrophy in closed vessel on medium supplemented with silver thiosulfate, (c) photomixotrophy in aerated vesse...

Proposition 2, which requires that egg-laying hens be confined only in ways that allow these animals to lie down, stand up, fully extend their limbs and turn around freely, was passed by the voters of California in 2008. These new housing requirements were introduced in the USA and European Union without considering the potential impact of changes in layer hen housing on the health of poultry w...

BACKGROUND Carbon dioxide concentration under ophthalmic drapes increases during eye surgery under local anaesthesia. A new prototype has been designed which combines continuous suction of carbon dioxide enriched air and continuous oxygen insufflation under ophthalmic drapes to prevent carbon dioxide accumulation in spontaneously breathing patients undergoing cataract surgery. METHODS In a pr...

UNLABELLED Using computational fluid dynamics simulations of an occupant in a ventilated room, we find that breathing zone ozone levels can be substantially lower and ozone reaction products associated with human surfaces (ORPHS) levels considerably higher than room levels. For air exchange rates <3/h, the ratio of the breathing zone to the ozone concentration 1 m from the body (bulk air), r(oz...
