Dilatation of aortic root may distort the tricuspid annulus. We experienced a case of chronic aortic dissection presented with tricuspid regurgitation. Chest computed tomography revealed an enlarged ascending aorta displacing the right heart. The patient successfully underwent replacement of the aorta and tricuspid annuloplasty with a prosthetic annulus.
A 35 year-old woman with a restrictive ventricular septal defect and an atrial septal aneurysm was admitted to our clinic. The patient reported mildly limited physical activity and palpitations. Transthoracic echocardiography showed an enlarged left ventricle and left atrium. The size of the right heart cavities was normal. The structure of both ventricle walls revealed a compact epicardial lay...
In the course pf our studies of pulmonary heart disease we have been impressed by the frequent co-existence of coronary heart disease noted at necropsy but less frequently recognized during life. It has been hypothesized that memory-demanding ecological conditions might result in enhanced memory and an enlarged hippocampus, an area of the brain involved in memory processing, either via extensive memory experience or through evolutionary changes. Avian migration appears to represent one of such memory-demanding ecological conditions. We compared two subspecies of the white-crowned sparro...

He served in the Army from 1943 to 1945 and had no illness. In November, 1949 he was hospitalized at the U. S. Public Health Service Hospital in San Francisco, California, because of increasing dyspnea and cough. His heart was enlarged and a loud hig...
Malformations of the heart are the result of an arrest or defective development at some specific point. German measles during early pregnancy is associated with a high incidence of congenital cataracts and congenital heart anomalies. Since malformations of the heart result from localized arrest in d...
Juvenile turbot Scophthalmus maximus that became sick during an outbreak of disease at mariculture facilities at Go-Chang, Korea, in 2003, were examined to identify the cause of the disease. The fish had pale body color, an enlarged abdomen, protruding eyes, an enlarged spleen and kidney, and pale gills and/or liver. Histopathogical examination revealed basophilic enlarged cells in the kidney, ...
