Endometrial receptivity plays a crucial role in the establishment of a healthy pregnancy in cycles of assisted reproduction. The endometrium as a key factor during reproduction can be assessed in multiple ways, most commonly through transvaginal grey-scale or 3-D ultrasound. It has been shown that controlled ovarian hyperstimulation has a great impact on the uterine lining, which leads to diffe...

Endometrial curettings from 458 patients presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding were studied. This included 220 (48%) patients with metrorrhagia, 187 (41%) with menorrhagia, 30 (6%) with postmenopausal bleeding, 13 (3%) with intermenstrual bleeding and 8 (1.74%) with polymenorrhagia. The histological findings were correlated with the pattern of abnormal bleeding in five different age groups....

Obesity is linked to increased incidence of endometrioid endometrial cancer (EEC) and complex atypical hyperplasia (CAH). We here explore pattern and sequence of molecular alterations characterizing endometrial carcinogenesis in general and related to body mass index (BMI), to improve diagnostic stratification and treatment strategies. We performed molecular characterization of 729 prospectivel...

Latent endometrial carcinoma precancers are normal-appearing endometrial glands with sporadic loss of tumor suppressor gene function such as PTEN. Progression to carcinoma is inefficient and requires additional genetic damage that creates a histologic precursor lesion called endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia (EIN). In this study, we examined loss of PAX2 expression, a gene required for embr...

BACKGROUND Rapid innate immune defences against infection usually involve the recognition of invading pathogens by specific pattern recognition receptors recently attributed to the family of Toll-like receptors (TLRs). Reports from our laboratory and others have demonstrated the existence of TLRs 1-6 in the female reproductive tract. However, little has been done to identify TLRs 7-10 in the fe...

BACKGROUND The KISS1/KISS1R system has been implicated in the physiology of reproduction and many studies have documented the stimulatory effect of kisspeptin on Gonadotropin-releasing Hormone (GnRH) and gonadotropin secretion. In addition, the KISS1/KISS1R system has been implicated in several pathophysiological processes, including cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS We examined the pattern of KI...

This is a prospective study of 182 women (38 yrs or younger) undergoing IVF-ET. Endometrial thickness, echo pattern and blood flow on transvaginal ultrasonography were recorded eight hours prior to hCG administration. The patients were divided into three groups: A (n = 10) with undetectable endometrial blood flow; B (n = 82) with sub-endometrial blood flow; C (n = 90) with both endometrial and ...

Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB) is one of the most common and significant gynaecological complaints seen in about 10-15% of women attending a gynaecological clinic. DUB is excessive abnormal bleeding from the endometrium that is unrelated to any anatomic lesions of the genital tract. The largest incidence of DUB is in the women of the childbearing age group and menorrhagia was more common ...
