Dust storms in northern China strongly affect the living and health of people there and the dusts could travel a full circle of the globe in a short time. Historically, more frequent dust storms occurred during cool periods, particularly the Little Ice Age (LIA), generally attributed to the strengthened Siberian High. However, limited by chronological uncertainties in proxy records, this mechan...

Aluminum and iron were measured in daily samples collected at urban and rural sites near Ft. Myers, Florida, in 1995–1996 using a dichotomous sampler. Al and Fe concentrations were low during most of the year but they increased dramatically during summer when African dust was advected into Florida. The ratio of fine (less than 2.5 μm diameter) to coarse (2.5–10 μm) Al and Fe is relatively const...

three medium magnitude events happened inside the transitional border of south alborz and central iran; namely kahak-qom 2007/06/18 event with ml 5.6, zanjan 2008/05/27 event with ml 5.3 and aradan-garmsar 2007/11/19 event with ml 5.1. this provides us the opportunity to compute focal mechanism and stress drop of the events and compare them with those events happened within the alborz range.

[1] Triboelectric charging of saltating and colliding sand and dust particles produces strong electric fields in terrestrial dust devils and dust storms. Acceleration of the charged particles, as well as microdischarges between them, generates wideband electromagnetic radiation. Similar phenomena are expected to be ubiquitous on Mars, because Martian dust devils and dust storms are larger, stro...

The sudden drop of the beam life time and bursts of background radiation were detected in many machines and associated with microscopic dust particles. We present the model of the dust particle dynamics explaining the long time of the dust events observed in the PEP-II B-factory and BEPC-II machines.

We separated dust particles from the mesh-filtered sets of rainwaters collected on rainy days with daily precipitations exceeding 10 mm per day. A total of 136 rainwaters (or snow during the winter season) samples collected from February 2009 to February 2013 were analyzed. In particular, 33 out of 136 rainwaters were collected during or just after the Asian dust storm (ADS) events. Values of p...

The differences in North African dust emission regions and transport routes, between the boreal winter and summer, are thoroughly documented. Here we re-examine the spatial and temporal characteristics of dust transport over the tropical and subtropical North Atlantic Ocean, using 10 yr of satellite data, in order to better characterize the different dust transport periods. We see a robust annu...

mineral dust can directly affect the solar and terrestrial radiation in both visible and infrared (ir) spectral regions through scattering and absorption processes. due to specific optical properties of dust particles, satellite observed radiances carry the spectral signatures of dust particles that are different from molecular, cloud, and underlying surface. based on these differences, various...
