As the diagnosis of duodenal ulcer presents many difficulties, I have made a careful analysis from my personal notes of the symptoms described by 62 patients who had definite duodenal ulcers.
A series of 31 infants and children with acute duodenal ulcer verified by endoscopy was studied over an eight year period. Eighteen (58%) of them were under 2 years of age. The most common symptom was upper gastrointestinal bleeding (n = 27, 87%). Twenty nine patients (94%) had a preceding illness characterised by diarrhoea, upper respiratory tract infection, or fever, which was not necessarily...

Duodenal ulcers and acute pancreatitis are two of the most commonly encountered gastrointestinal diseases among the general population. However, duodenal ulcer-induced pancreatitis is very rarely reported worldwide. This report elaborates on a distinct medical treatment that contributes to partial or complete treatment of acute pancreatitis induced by a duodenal ulcer scar.
In order to identify the risk factors affecting the healing of duodenal ulcer, a clinical trial with effective dose of antacid was carried out in 53 patients. Duration of ulcer history, number of relapses, duration of the last and present relapse, number, duration and severity of pain attacks in the present ulcer relapse, pain radiation to back, vomiting, appetite, smoking habit, intake of anal...
Campylobacter-like organisms were detected by light microscopy in association with 57 of 102 (56%) of gastric ulcers, all the gastric erosions associated with gastritis, three of five (60%) of gastric erosions without gastritis, five of 13 (39%) of mild superficial gastritis and two of 36 (6%) of normal gastric mucosa. They were also seen in four of 20 (20%) of duodenal ulcers, but not in duode...
The gastroduodenal mucosa has a rich blood supply. An active fibrinolytic system is presumably required to maintain vascular patency, and impairment may result in reduced blood flow, focal tissue necrosis, and peptic ulcerogenesis. Tissue type and urokinase type plasminogen activator activity (expressed as mIU/mg protein) and plasminogen activator inhibitor type-1 antigen were assayed in homoge...
The following case of perforated duodenal ulcer in an infant is reported, not only on account of the raritv of the condition, but also because the symptoms and course presented differ somewhat from those in previouslv reported cases. Peptic ulcers are evidently not very rare in infants under one year of age, but onlv a few have been recorded in England. In Welch's1 collection of 6074 cases of p...
