BACKGROUND There is no consensus as to what extent of "wrap" is required in a fundoplication for correction of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). OBJECTIVE To evaluate if a complete (360 degree) or partial fundoplication gives better control of GERD. METHODS A systematic search of MEDLINE and Scopus identified interventional and observational studies of fundoplication in children. Scre...

Human DOR/TP53INP2 displays a unique bifunctional role as a modulator of autophagy and gene transcription. However, the domains or regions of DOR that participate in those functions have not been identified. Here we have performed structure/function analyses of DOR guided by identification of conserved regions in the DOR gene family by phylogenetic reconstructions. We show that DOR is present i...

BACKGROUND Dumping syndrome is a recognized complication of various gastric surgical procedures, such as vagotomy, pyloroplasty, and gastrojejunostomy. However, it has not to date been reported following laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication in adults. Gastroparesis, caused by delayed emptying of the stomach, has been shown to be associated with Nissen fundoplication. However, symptomatic rapid emptying of the stomach is rare after Nissen fundoplication, and its treatment is often challenging. We report 2 patients with dumping-like syndrome post-fundoplication with marked improvement of symptoms after dietary management and medical treatment.

Introduction: Esophageal cancer is a common gastro intestinal malignancy. One of the most common techniques of surgery in esophageal cancer is transhiatal esophagectomy with esophagogastric anastomosis in the neck. This technique is accompanied by complications like chronic gastero-esophegeal reflux and late stenosis. This study was designed to compare the risk of complications after two surgic...

The δ opioid receptor (DOR), is the first cloned G protein-coupled receptor. Many recent studies on DOR functions have determined that the DOR is involved in the regulation of malignant transformation and tumor progression in multiple cancers. However, it is still unclear if the DOR is involved in the regulation of malignant transformation and tumor progression in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)...

OBJECTIVES Bronchiolitis obliterans is the greatest limitation to the long-term applicability of lung transplantation. Although alloimmune events are important, nonimmune events, such as gastroesophageal reflux, might contribute to lung injury and the development of bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome. METHODS We retrospectively studied the 396 patients who underwent lung transplantation at the...

BACKGROUND Eighty percent of patients treated medically for gastroesophageal reflux disease relapse after treatment. Many of these patients require indefinite treatment with omeprazole to prevent recurrence. Nissen fundoplication has been shown to be effective, safe and cost effective in the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease. We suggest a treatment algorithm, which encourages early ...
