Document image compression is used for the speedy transmission of the data over the web. This paper deals with effective compression scheme for handwritten gray level documents in Devnagri script. The current OCR technology is not effective for handling the handwritten textual images. The proposed compression scheme is based on the separation of foreground and background of the image. Experimen...

Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) focuses on the computerized exploration of large amounts of data and on the discovery of interesting patterns within them. While most work on KDD has been concerned with structured databases, there has been little work on handling the huge amount of information that is available only in unstructured textual form. Previous work in text mining focused at the...

A server, which is to keep track of heavy document traffic, is unable to filter the documents that are most relevant and updated for continuous text search queries. This paper focuses on handling continuous text extraction sustaining high document traffic. The main objective is to retrieve recent updated documents that are most relevant to the query by applying sliding window technique. Our sol...

This paper describes a system of terminological extraction capable of handling multi-word expressions, using a powerful syntactic parser. The system includes a concordancing tool enabling the user to display the context of the collocation, i.e. the sentence or the whole document where the collocation occurs. Since the corpora are multilingual, the system also offers an alignment mechanism for t...

This work deals with poorly structured handwritten documents segmentation such as pages of handwritten notes produced with pen-based interfaces. We propose to use a formalism, based on Probabilistic Feature Grammars, that exhibit some interesting features. It allows handling ambiguities and to taking into account contextual information such as spatial relations between objects in the page.

Current methods for diffraction-spot integration from CCD area detectors typically underestimate the errors in the measured intensities. In an attempt to understand fully and identify correctly the sources of all contributions to these errors, a simulation of a CCD-based area-detector module has been produced to address the problem of correct handling of data from such detectors. Using this sim...

This little working note presents some brief thoughts on handling variation among members of a concept, and generating examples of that concept. This note only sketches some very preliminary thoughts, to (hopefully) be elaborated in later notes.

Categorization of text images into content oriented classes would be a useful capability in a variety of document handling systems Many methods can be used to cat egorize texts once their words are known but OCR can garble a large proportion of words particularly when low quality images are used Despite this we show for one data set that fax quality images can be cat egorized with nearly the sa...

This paper outlines a multiple imputation method for handling missing data in designed longitudinal studies. A random coefficients model is developed to accommodate incomplete multivariate continuous longitudinal data. Multivariate repeated measures are jointly modeled; specifically, an i.i.d. normal model is assumed for time-independent variables and a hierarchical random coefficients model is...
