Voodoosketch is a system that extends a graphical table top interface with physical palettes on which users can dynamically deploy controls as shortcut to application functionality. The system provides physical ‘plug and play’ controls as well as support for sketching of controls, and allows controls to be associated with application functions via handwritten labels. The system uses a special d...
Multispectral printer characterization requires an effective model to map the inputs to the printer (i.e., the digital counts of the inks) into reflectance spectra and vice versa. Most of the methods for printer modeling are based on the color mixing model of Neugebauer, but this model, in its original formulation, is a rather poor predictor of the printer's output, since it fails to take into ...
The research presented in this thesis addresses a critical issue in the introduction of new tablet-PC-based educational technology in the classroom: interpretation and semantic representation of digital ink. The teaching paradigm being investigated is that of in-class exercises, which have proven beneficial to student learning. Recent advances in educational technology support such exercises by...
Laser carving technology has the advantages of higher resolution, focusing precision and digital modulation. It has been widely used in laser engraving gravure plate and laser plate processing. However, the switching of the laser has only two states, so the halftoning processing plays a vary important role in the laser plate. In this paper, we present a 2-dimensional digital halftoning method b...
We perform offline stroke extraction using the correlation between opposing edges of a pen trail. We use a digital filter sized to an estimate of ink thickness, together with the directions across each pen trail. We also infer stroke traversal. Multiple characters can be processed without prior segmentation.
We investigate the question of how multimodality can be used in computer-mediated mathematical collaboration. To demonstrate our ideas, we present InkChat, a whiteboard application, which can be used to conduct collaborative sessions on a shared canvas. It allows participants to use voice and digital ink independently and simultaneously, which has been found useful in mathematical collaboration.
We present vsInk, a plug-in that affords digital ink annotation in the Visual Studio code editor. Annotations can be added in the same window as the editor and automatically reflow when the underlying code changes. The plug-in uses recognisers built using machine learning to improve the accuracy of the annotation’s anchor. The user evaluation shows that the core functionality is sound. .
