A dedicated 4-m-high vertical wind tunnel has been designed and constructed at the University of Geneva in collaboration with the Groupe de compétence en mécanique des fluides et procédés énergétiques. With its diverging test section, the tunnel is designed to study the aero-dynamical behavior of non-spherical particles with terminal velocities between 5 and 27 ms(-1). A particle tracking veloc...

We introduce a marker particle method for the computation of 3D solid morphologies evolving by surface diffusion. The method does not use gridding of surfaces or numerical differentiation, and applies to surfaces with finite slopes and overhangs. We demonstrate the method by computing the evolution of perturbed cylindrical wires on a substrate.
We consider a particle with a position-dependent mass, moving in a threedimensional semi-infinite parallelepipedal or cylindrical channel under the influence of some hyperbolic potential. We show that the lack of uniformity in the environment generates an infinite number of bound states. PACS: 03.65.-w
An electrodynamic balance (EDB) of the double ring double disc type has been designed for studying single microparticles. It allows electrostatic particle injection and recovery as well as alignment of elongated particles. The stability characteristics of cylindrical fibers and their alignment in this EDB are investigated. Angular as well as translational oscillations are observed, each associa...
A simple cylindrical Mach probe is described along with an independent calibration procedure in a magnetized plasma wind tunnel. A particle orbit calculation corroborates our model. The probe operates in the weakly magnetized regime in which probe dimension and ion orbit are of the same scale. Analytical and simulation models are favorably compared with experimental calibration.
In this paper, an arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) based numerical method has been presented for the numerical simulation of gas-particle two phase flow with moving boundaries. The main stages for the implementation of the algorithm have been discussed. The numerical results of cylindrical implosion and 2D dusty gas explosion have shown the effectiveness of the method.
This paper considers particle propagation in a cylindrical molecular communication channel, e.g. a simplified model of a blood vessel. Emitted particles are influenced by diffusion, flow, and a vertical force induced e.g. by gravity or magnetism. The dynamics of the diffusion process are modeled by multi-dimensional transfer functions in a spatio-temporal frequency domain. Realistic boundary co...
