Zinc-cyanide complexes are found in gold mining effluents and in metal finishing rinse water. The effect of Zn(II) on the oxidation of cyanide by ferrate(VI) (Fe(VI)O(4)(2-), Fe(VI)) was thus investigated by studying the kinetics of the reaction of Fe(VI) with cyanide present in a potassium salt of a zinc cyanide complex (K(2)Zn(CN)(4)) and in a mixture of Zn(II) and cyanide solutions as a func...
In the title complex, [Fe(NCS)(2)(C(11)H(8)ClN(3))(2)], the Fe(II) atom is coordinated by two N atoms from the thio-cyanate ligands and four N atoms from two chelating 5-chloro-2-(phenyl-diazen-yl)pyridine ligands, generating a fairly regular FeN(6) octa-hedral coordination geometry. The thio-cyanate ions are in a cis disposition and the pyridine N atoms are in a trans orientation. In the cryst...
Reaction of nickel(II) chloride with sodium cyanate and 2,6-di-methyl-pyrazine leads to single crystals of the title com-pound, [Ni(NCO)(2)(C(6)H(8)N(2))(4)]. The nickel(II) cation is located about a centre of inversion and is octa-hedrally coordinated by two cyanate anions and four 2,6-dimethyl-pyrazine ligands, forming discrete complexes.
In the mononuclear title compound, [Zn(NCS)(2)(C(7)H(16)N(2))], the Zn(II) atom is four-coordinated by two N atoms of the chelating 2-(piperidin-1-yl)ethyl-amine ligand and two N atoms from two thio-cyanate ligands in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked through inter-molecular N-H⋯S hydrogen bonds, forming chains along the b axis.
Pseudomonas fluorescens NCIB 11764 was capable of utilizing cyanate (OCN-) as a sole nitrogen source for growth. Crude cell extracts from cells grown on cyanate, but not on ammonium sulfate, were induced for an enzyme catalyzing cyanate conversion to ammonia. Enzymatic activity was shown to be bicarbonate dependent and specific for cyanate as a substrate, suggesting that cyanate utilization in ...
In the centrosymmetric mononuclear title complex, [Ni(NCS)(2)(C(11)H(11)N(3)O)(4)], the Ni(II) atom, located on an inversion centre, is hexa-coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral geometry comprising four N atoms of four monodentate 1-phenyl-3-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)propan-1-one ligands and two N atoms from thio-cyanate anions.
The title compound, (C(16)H(36)N)(3)[Th(NCS)(4)(NO(3))(3)], was obtained from the reaction of Th(NO(3))(4)·5H(2)O with (Bu(4)N)(NCS). The Th(IV) atom is in a ten-coordinate environment of irregular geometry, being bound to the N atoms of the four thio-cyanate ions and to three bidentate nitrate ions. The average Th-N and Th-O bond lengths are 2.481 (10) and 2.57 (3) Å, respectively.
In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Cd(NCS)(C(6)H(4)NO(2))(C(2)H(5)OH)](n), the Cd(2+) cation is coordinated by one N and two O atoms of two symmetry-related isonicotinate anions, one ethanol mol-ecule and two μ-1,3-bridging thio-cyanate anions in a distorted octa-hedral N(2)O(3)S geometry. The metal cations are μ-1,3-bridged via thio-cyanate anions into chains that are further con...
In the title compound, [Ni(NCS)(2)(C(6)H(10)N(2))(4)]·C(6)H(10)N(2), the asymmetric unit comprises a Ni(II) complex and a co-crystallised mol-ecule of 3,4,5-trimethyl-1H-pyrazole (PzMe(3)). The Ni(II) atom is coordinated by four PzMe(3) mol-ecules and two thio-cyanate anions to define a trans N(4)S(2) distorted octa-hedral geometry. A number of intra-molecular N-H⋯N, N-H⋯S and C-H⋯N inter-actio...
Previous experiments to study the rate of red cell sickling have employed rapid mixing apparatus for SS cells with dithionite and have shown that the half-time of sickling is quite rapid, on the order of seconds. An alternative approach is to slow down the rate by taking advantage of the negative temperature coefficient of the process. We developed a method in which deoxygenation of a cell susp...
