We aimed to compare the recurrence rate following primary pterygium surgery using two different techniques, i.e. simple conjunctival closure (SCC) and rotational conjunctival flap (RCF). Postoperative discomfort and complications were also investigated in these patients.
CLINICAL CASE A 71-year-old woman presented with a leaking bleb after a combined phacotrabeculectomy performed 13 years ago. To construct a new filtering bleb, the necrotic area was fully excised. The amniotic membrane was inserted over the scleral flap underneath healthy conjunctiva edges. A conjunctiva-Tenon autograft from the contralateral eye was sutured and was sealed with fibrin adhesive....
PURPOSE To demonstrate the long term of follow-up of the recurrence rate after conjunctival autograft for pterygium surgery. METHODS A total of 112 patients operated for pterygium with conjunctival autografts and with more than one year follow-up were registered. Patients were called for voluntary examinations of their respective ocular surface statuses. Completing the study was only possible...
A 40-years-old male patient with a corneal scar secondary to perforating eye injury had undergone ipsilateral rotational autokeratoplasty in our clinics. The corneal scar involved the pupillary area. The patient had a preoperative visual acuity of counting fingers. The patient's cornea was trephined with a 0.5 mm temporal decentration. The 8.0 mm autograft was rotated approximately 180° to relo...
PURPOSE To present complications of using fibrin glue in conjunctival-limbal autografting in pterygium surgeries other than recurrences and discuss their prevention and management strategies. MATERIALS AND METHODOLOGY The charts of all patients who underwent fibrin glue assisted pterygium excision surgery with conjunctival-limbal autograft transplantation from 2010 to 2013 were reviewed. Pati...
PURPOSE To analyze conjunctival cytological features 1 month after pterygium excision using limbo-conjunctival autograft (LCA) with and without intraoperative mitomycin C and to assess tissue short-term evolution in both situations. METHODS Fifty-nine primary nasal pterygia from 59 patients were excised with LCA. Twenty-nine were treated with intraoperative mitomycin C 0.02% (MMC+) and 30 wer...
AIM Investigate the efficiency of limbal conjunctival autograft in primary and recurrent pterygium. (2) To report the incidence of recurrence after primary and recurrent pterygium surgery using limbal conjunctival autograft. MATERIAL AND METHODS It is a prospective study conducted at Department of Ophthalmology, Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital, Gulbarga Karnataka, India for a period...
