Two extremal classes of acyclic groups are discussed. For an arbitrary group G, there is always a homomorphism from an acyclic group of cohomological dimension 2 onto the maximum perfect subgroup of G, and there is always an embedding of G in a binate (hence acyclic) group. In the other direction, there are no nontrivial homomorphisms from binate groups to groups of …nite cohomological dimensio...

let ( r,m ) be a noetherian local ring, a an ideal of r and m a finitely generated r- module. we investigate some properties of formal local cohomology modules with respect to a serre subcategory. we provide a common language to indicate some properties of formal local cohomology modules. let ( r,m ) be a noetherian local ring, a an ideal of r and m a finitely generated r- module. we investigat...

We define the derivation module for a homomorphism of inverse semigroups, generalizing a construction for groups due to Crowell. For a presentation map from a free inverse semigroup, we can then define its relation module as the kernel of a canonical map from the derivation module to the augmentation module. The constructions are analogues of the first steps in the Gruenberg resolution obtained...

In this paper we will compare the connectivity dimension c(P/I) of an ideal I in a polynomial ring P with that of any initial ideal of I. Generalizing a theorem of Kalkbrener and Sturmfels [18], we prove that c(P/LT≺(I)) ≥ min{c(P/I), dim(P/I)−1} for each monomial order ≺. As a corollary we have that every initial complex of a Cohen-Macaulay ideal is strongly connected. Our approach is based on...
