The Brazilian Atlantic rainforest consists of a typical tropical rainforest on mountain slopes, and stands out as a biodiversity hotspot for its high species richness and high level of species endemism. This forest is bordered by plant communities with lower species diversity, due mostly to more extreme environmental conditions than those found in the mesic rainforest. Between the mountain slop...

Abstract Coastal systems are immensely valuable to humans. They contain unique ecosystems that biodiversity reservoirs and provide key ecosystem services as well a wealth of cultural heritage. Despite their importance humans, many coastal experiencing degradation threatens integrity provisioning services. While much is known about the plant communities associated wildlife in areas, microorganis...

Site classification in the biogeoclimatic ecosystem classification system is based on three differentiating properties: climatic regimes (expressed by biogeoclimatic subzones or variants), soil moisture regimes (SMRs), and soil nutrient regimes (SNRs). A SNR represents a segment of a regional soil nutrient gradient, i.e., soils which provide similar levels of plant-available nutrients over a lo...

Coastal dune plants are subjected to natural multiple stresses and vulnerable to global change. Some changes associated with global change could interact in their effects on vegetation. As vegetation plays a fundamental role in building and stabilizing dune systems, effective coastal habitat management requires a better understanding of the combined effects of such changes on plant populations....

explore relationships between species of emergent aquatic vegetation communities and their environmental conditions. The modeling approach was used to evaluate the potential persistence of two desired — and quantitatively important — rhizomatous plant species under various climatological conditions: Sagittaria latifolia, common in freshwater systems, can produce tubers as well as rhizomes; Spar...

We examined the genetic diversity of root nodule bacteria associated with the Australian legume Acacia longifolia in two stages of invasion of a coastal sand dune system. All isolates belonged to the genus Bradyrhizobium. A higher diversity was found in the long-established trees. The results suggest the introduction of exotic bradyrhizobia with the plant.

introduction due to the proximity to the sea, beaches always attracted tourists. on the other hand the coastal ecosystems are the most important and sensitive dual nature (land, naval), and variety of animal species are within themselves. the most important (and also longest) coastal area in iran are persian gulf and gulf of oman in south with about 2530km long and caspian sea in north with abo...

Soil moisture is a key limiting resource in arid and semi-arid environments for woody shrub species. We assessed if three arid communities differed in their level of dry season soil moisture content and if the dominant species in these communities differed in their ability to use soil moisture. Water potential of all of the dominant woody plant species occurring in chaparral, coastal sage, and ...
