The main objective of this work was to study and to characterize cocoa butter and the binary system cocoa butter/supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2). In this way, it was measured the density and the solubility of the heavy phase in equilibrium at high pressures at 40 and 50oC, as the density and compressibility of cocoa butter. The density measurements were done trough an autoclave with a sap...

Sodium metabisulfite (Na2S20S) was used to inactivate trypsin inhibitors in whole and cracked soybeans. Soybeans (400 g) steeped with 1600 ml aqueous O.IM Na2S20S at 30°C and 65°C for 2and 3-h were dehulled, dried, flaked and then defatted with either 6 batch extractions of hexane at ambient temperature or with supercritical CO2 for 15 min at 12,000 PSI and 84°C. The 2-h steep treatment at 65°C...

We estimated the oceanic inventory of anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) from 1980 to 1999 using a technique based on the global chlorofluorocarbon data set. Our analysis suggests that the ocean stored 14.8 petagrams of anthropogenic carbon from mid-1980 to mid-1989 and 17.9 petagrams of carbon from mid-1990 to mid-1999, indicating an oceanwide net uptake of 1.6 and 2.0 +/- 0.4 petagrams of car...

We have demonstrated an improved synthesis of a cyclic carbonate of soybean oil (CSO) utilizing supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2) as the solvent. Because the mutual solubility of supercritical CO2 and soybean oil is significantly higher than that of gaseous CO2 and soybean oil, our method synthesizes the material in y1/3 of the reaction time reported in the literature. We have also demonstrate...

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the major contributors to the greenhouse effect. The power and industrial sectors combined account for about 60% of the global CO2 emissions [1]. CO2 capture and storage (CCS), which involves the processes of capture, transport and long-term storage of carbon dioxide, is a technology aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuels during indus...

Nitrile groups in the polymer of intrinsic microporosity PIM-1 were reduced to primary amines using borane complexes. In adsorption experiments, the novel amine-PIM-1 showed higher CO2 uptake and higher CO2/N2 sorption selectivity than the parent polymer, with very evident dual-mode sorption behavior. In gas permeation with six light gases, the individual contributions of solubility and diffusi...

Choline chloride + levulinic acid deep eutectic solvent is studied as a suitable material for CO2 capturing purposes. The most relevant physicochemical properties of this solvent are reported together with the CO2 solubility as a function of temperature. The corrosivity of this solvent is studied showing better performance than amine-based solvents. A theoretical study using both density functi...

The solubility of quartz in H2O-NaCl solutions was measured at 2, 4.35, 10 and 15 kbar and 500–900°C, and at NaCl concentrations up to halite saturation, usually greater than 75 wt.%. Quartz solubility was also measured in CO2-H2O solutions at 10 kbar and 800°C. Solubilities were determined by weight loss of ground and polished quartz crystal fragments which were equilibrated with solutions in ...
