Channel allocation algorithms can be classified into three methods. This paper is based on the fixed method. We propose a new fixed channel allocation mechanism using genetic algorithm in cellular mobile computing environments. Our simulation result indicates that the proposed algorithm could reduce a search time for an available channel.
In a mobile computing environment, efficient allocation of wireless communication channels has a consequential impact on the performance of the system. This paper presents a distributed channel allocation algorithm based on the concept of dynamic channel boundaries. Under this scheme, each mobile service station (MSS) is assigned a contiguous range of channels which is not overlapping with the ...
Distributed dynamic channel allocation (DDCA) is a fundamental resource management problem in mobile cellular networks. It has a flavor of distributed mutual exclusion but is not exactly a mutual exclusion problem (because a channel may be reused in different cells). In this paper, we establish the exact relationship between the two problems. Specifically, we introduce the problem of relaxed mu...
This paper proposes and evaluates a set of physical level assisted cross-layer channel assignment schemes. These schemes allocate an incoming call the available channel that experienced the best channel quality conditions during previous transmissions. To estimate such conditions, three different link quality metrics have been considered. The performance of the proposed schemes has been compare...
Consider a channel allocation problem over a frequency-selective channel. There are K channels (frequency bands) and N users such that K = bN for some positive integer b. We want to allocate b channels (or resource blocks) to each user. Due to the nature of the frequency-selective channel, each user considers some channels to be better than others. Allocating each user only good channels will r...
