in may 2007, a suborder shoka deer calf about one month of age was found in a preserved area of arasbaran in the east azerbaijan province. from an ecological view point, the arasbaran area is uniquely labelled as a reserve biosphere. he calf had diarrhea that recovered after treatment. during rearing, the calf received pasteurized- homogenized milk from market as well as milk of a goat. after 3...
Background: Various strains of Escherichia coli (E. coli) are known as major causes of intestinal and extraintestinal infections in humans and various animal species. Molecular methods are important for the identification of bacterial isolates and nucleotide sequence variations, as well as information on tracking bacterial agents related to the outbreaks, the frequency of the bacterial genetic ...
Calf diseases remain a challenge for dairy producers from both an economic and welfare perspective. Genetically selecting disease resistance in calves is promising approach that could contribute to sustainable farming. Genetic evaluations, however, require well-defined consistently recorded phenotypes be successful. Therefore, this study aimed understand the current state of calf recording on O...
We determined the complete genome sequences of both biotypes of a virus pair of bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) subgenotype 1k. The viruses were isolated from a persistently infected calf suffering from mucosal disease. Compared to the noncytopathic biotype, the cytopathic biotype contains an insertion of 84 nucleotides and 22 nucleotide changes.
A calf persistently infected by Hobi-like pestivirus was monitored for about 6 months, displaying clinical signs typical of bovine viral diarrhea virus persistent infection and shedding the virus through all body secretions, with maximal titers detected in urine. This report provides new insights into the pathogenesis of the emerging pestivirus.
We describe a case of Cryptosporidium muris infection in an HIV-infected adult with diarrhea in Kenya. Sequence analysis of an 840-bp region of the 18S rRNA gene locus demonstrated the isolate had 100% nucleotide identity with C. muris recovered from a rock hyrax, 98.8% with a C. muris "calf" isolate, 95.5% with C. serpentis, but only 87.8% with C. parvum "human" type.
A retrospective study was conducted of clinical records of calves with neonatal diarrhea up to the age of 14 days concerning certain aspects of blood potassium concentration and heart rate and rhythm. No correlation could be found between heart rates and serum potassium concentrations. Bradycardia was no indicator of hyperkalemia, nor could hyperkalemia be ruled out in animals with tachycardia....
