Terzi et al. [1] for their comments on our article [2] and also thank EJCTS for giving me this opportunity to answer this question. Bronchopleural fistula (BPF) is a most serious complication in patients with tuberculosis-destroyed lungs who have undergone pneumonectomy. Halezeroglu et al. We report a case of a 76-year-old man with fibrocavitary nontuberculous mycobacterial (FC-NTM) lung disease, who was successfully treated with right extrapleural completion pneumonectomy. Right extrapleural completion pneumonectomy with careful coverage of the bronchial stump might be effective in patients with FC-NTM lung disease.

Bronchial fistulae in communication with atmospheric pressure can be identified by the presence of a squeaking sound heard over the chest wall during a Valsalva maneuver. Furthermore, these leak sounds can help identify the size, location, and communications of the bronchial fistulae. The size of the leak can be inferred by the pitch of the leak sound. Large leaks produce low pitched sounds, sm...

METHODS Univariate and multivariate analyses of the development of bronchopleural fistula were performed in 12 patients with bronchopleural fistula and 102 patients without bronchopleural fistula who had undergone pneumonectomy from January 1983 through December 2005. RES...

OBJECTIVE Although the incidence of bronchopleural fistula (BPF) has decreased in the past decades, it remains a serious complication following pulmonary resection. The management of left-sided bronchial stump fistulas is difficult and depends on the choice of the approach. In contrast to several surgical procedures published in the past, herein we report our experience managing five left-main-...

Bronchial obstruction due to a tumor embolus of the contralateral lung during pneumonectomy is an uncommon and fatal complication. According to previous cases, a bronchial balloon of double-lumen endotracheal tube (DLT) could prevent a dislodged tumor from traveling to the contralateral lung. We experienced a tumor embolism from the bronchus with cancer to the other bronchus despite applying DL...
