Burkholderia contaminans LMG 23361 is the type strain of the species isolated from the milk of a dairy sheep with mastitis. Some pharmaceutical products contain disinfectants such as benzalkonium chloride (BZK) and previously we reported that B. contaminans LMG 23361T possesses the ability to inactivate BZK with high biodegradation rates. Here, we report an improved high-quality draft genome se...

We announce the draft genome sequences of five Listeria monocytogenes strains from two Iberian pork-processing plants located in Spain that were distinguished by their resistance to benzalkonium chloride. These strains seem highly adapted to the meat-processing environment according to their persistence and transmission capabilities.

Twenty-seven patients with vernal conjunctivitis who remained symptomatic following treatment with corticosteroid drops and/or Opticrom drops (sodium cromoglycate 2%, benzalkonium chloride 0.01%) were treated with aspirin. Aspirin produced marked improvement in all patients apart from three. The possible mechanism of the efficacy of aspirin in vernal conjunctivitis is discussed.

Tobramycin is a potent antimicrobial aminoglycoside that can be used to treat ocular infections. Its solubility and bioavailability are limited, so its solid dispersion was prepared using PVP-K30, HPMC Beta cyclodextrin by solvent evaporation technique. This formulated as an eye drop sodium chloride, EDTA benzalkonium chloride. Totally 9 formulations were prepared. The in-vitro dissolution prof...

A modified method for rapid sterilisation of the fibrebronchoscope using immersion of the instrument in 0.1% benzalkonium chloride for five minutes followed by a further five minutes' immersion in 96% alcohol was tested both by deliberate contamination of rubber catheters and on bronchoscopes after use in patients. The method proved effective in eliminating a wide range of potentially pathogeni...
